What Has Happened to OA in ‘FBI’ and Where His Story Goes Next

Fans searching for whether OA dies in ‘FBI’ have reason to be uneasy, given how dramatic the character’s last few storylines have been. Zeeko Zaki has played Special Agent Omar Adom “OA” Zidan since the series began in 2018. A character that central rarely leaves quietly, so every missed episode and cliffhanger tends to set off speculation.

The verified record points in a different direction. OA in ‘FBI’ has survived a poisoning, been fired in a staged move, and gone undercover. Zeeko Zaki remains part of the series.

Does OA Die in ‘FBI’ or Only Disappear for a While

The clearest scare came in Season 8. An episode that premiered on November 3, 2025 did not feature OA at all, and fans began to wonder whether Zaki was still part of the show. The explanation sat in the episode before it.

OA and Maggie were assigned to protect Senator Charlotte Hirsch, who had been targeted for assassination, and OA was accidentally exposed to the same poison. Maggie got the antidote in time, and OA was hospitalized and shown being monitored by the end of the episode. He survived, and his absence was written as a recovery.

Earlier gaps were less clearly explained. OA was missing from a Season 7 episode titled “Manhunt,” and the series never addressed why. The most probable reason was on the production side, with main characters sometimes missing episodes to offset costs.

One outlet described the pattern as a broader strategy. It framed the absences as part of a cast rotation approach, as CBS trims the number of guaranteed episodes for regulars. In other words, an empty chair at the FBI field office has not signaled the end of the character.

The Season 8 Finale and OA’s Undercover Assignment

The bigger shock arrived in the Season 8 finale. OA pushed back against ADIC Green’s orders to move on from the shady Anna Vorpe and her team, who were taking a serum that would have saved a bus full of passengers exposed to a deadly biochemical. The scene ended with OA apparently losing his job.

That dismissal was not what it appeared to be. Coverage of the finale confirmed that OA’s termination was a performance. He, Maggie, and Isobel set him up so that Anna would be tempted to recruit him onto her strike team.

The finale aired on May 18 and, for a few tense minutes, looked like the end of the road for OA. The staged firing gave the writers a way to separate the longtime partners without removing either of them from the show. It also set up the premise that drives the early part of Season 9.

Zeeko Zaki’s Future on ‘FBI’

Nothing in the reporting suggests the actor is on his way out. There have been no official reports, statements from CBS, or posts from Zaki himself pointing to a permanent exit. The show’s own scheduling backs that up.

CBS gave ‘FBI’ a three year renewal order in April 2024, covering Season 7 as well as Seasons 8 and 9. That kind of commitment makes a sudden death of a lead character far less likely, particularly one half of the central partnership.

The showrunner has addressed the question directly. After the finale, Mike Weiss confirmed to TV Insider that Zaki was not going anywhere, adding that the team was excited to see him deep undercover in a different way. Weiss framed the arc as a way to shake up the top of the season.

What Season 9 Means for OA and Maggie

The Season 9 premiere aired on Monday, October 5, an hour earlier than the previous season, with OA still undercover. The network teased that Maggie struggles to bond with her new partner, Isaiah Green, played by Roland Buck III, while OA adjusts to a new role.

The separation is not brief. Zaki said three months have passed since the end of the previous season, and OA has been completely disconnected from his team that entire time. He also said the assignment lasts more than one episode.

The toll on the character is part of the story. Zaki told TVLine that OA misses his old job and misses his partner even more. He also offered the line “The longer you stay in the fire, the easier it is to burn.”

The longer view points toward a recovery arc. Weiss said OA will be changed by his time undercover, and it will fall to Maggie, Scola, Eva, and the rest of the team to help him return to the agent he was before. With OA alive, employed in secret, and still a series regular, the more interesting question is how much of the old partner will come back, and whether you think Maggie can pull OA out of the shadows without losing the trust that defined their partnership, so tell us in the comments.
