New ‘Hexed’ Posters Give Disney’s Witch Tale a Magical Glow
Walt Disney Animation Studios has a long tradition of releasing a big original film over the Thanksgiving holiday, and this year’s entry is a very different kind of fairy tale. ‘Hexed’ swaps a storybook kingdom for a modern-day witch story, and the studio has been steadily rolling out marketing for it. The latest batch of ‘Hexed’ posters adds some fresh magic to that campaign.
The film is Disney Animation’s 65th feature and follows Billie Doe, an impulsive, unconventional teenage girl voiced by Hailee Steinfeld. After she discovers secret magical abilities, they hurtle her out of suburbia and into a journey through Hexe, a vast witch realm. Rashida Jones voices her cautious mother, Alice, and Jodie Foster plays the villainous queen of the witches.
Now Disney has shared a new set of posters for ‘Hexed’, which opens in theaters on November 25. The first shows Billie in a vivid fantasy forest with swirling magic around her, accompanied by a green creature, a small owl-like bird, and a bubbling cauldron, along with the line about the studio that brought you ‘Frozen’ and ‘Zootopia’.
The second is an Italian version titled ‘Hexe: Il regno delle streghe’, which places Billie against a giant crescent moon and gives the film a November 26 release in Italy. The posters hint at the film’s colorful ensemble.
Walton Goggins voices Beef Roger Crummchuk, a reclusive three-eyed cat who forges an uneasy alliance with Billie and her mother. Henry Winkler plays Nigel, a skittish, all-knowing potoo bird who holds the secrets of Hexe, and Dan Stevens voices Hieronymous, the queen’s blustering Grand Councilor.
The voice cast also includes Tracey Ullman as the enchanted feather quill pen Ms. Quill, Stephen Fry as Elias Quire, and Brett Gelman, Rachel Dratch, Yvette Nicole Brown, and Ariana Madix. Fawn Veerasunthorn and Jason Hand direct, with Josie Trinidad as co-director, and Jared Bush, the studio’s chief creative officer, wrote the screenplay with Dana Ledoux Miller.

‘Hexed’ has changed along the way. When Bush first revealed it at Destination D23 in August 2025, it was described as the story of an awkward teenage boy and his Type A mother. The finished film now centers on a teenage girl and her mother, with their relationship at the emotional core.
The marketing has also generated some debate. The first trailer arrived in mid-June, and online viewers theorized that the footage was framed for vertical video on social media. Hand rejected that idea in an interview with Cartoon Brew at the Annecy festival, saying the reaction blindsided both him and Veerasunthorn.
The first impressions from press previews have been encouraging. SlashFilm saw roughly 30 minutes of footage and came away more interested than after the teaser, especially thanks to Goggins’ cat and the world of Hexe, which it called full of life and color. TheWrap’s preview noted that the modern setting is something Disney Animation typically doesn’t do for a fairy tale, and Hand said the studio wants to push into areas it may have shied away from before.

There’s also a bit of history riding on it. Veerasunthorn previously co-directed ‘Wish’, Disney’s 2023 holiday film, which had a disappointing critical and commercial reception, while Hand’s credits include ‘Moana 2’. ‘Hexed’ is therefore a chance for the directors and the studio to deliver a fresh original hit.

The film will arrive exclusively in theaters on November 25, with the animated short ‘Lilo & Scratch’ playing alongside it. A Disney+ release is expected in 2027. If the posters and trailers are any indication, Disney is betting that a modern witch story can cast a spell on holiday audiences.
