Taylor Sheridan’s mob drama has quietly become one of the most stacked ensembles on streaming, and the ‘Tulsa King’ cast has more superhero credentials than many fans realize. The series stars Sylvester Stallone as Dwight “The General” Manfredi, a New York Mafia captain sent to Tulsa, Oklahoma, after his release from prison to build a new criminal operation.

The show is riding high right now. ‘Tulsa King’ returned for its fourth season on Paramount+ on October 16, and the streamer had already renewed it for a fifth season, with filming kicking off on October 5 in New York.

With the new season underway, a discussion on the ‘Tulsa King’ subreddit has highlighted 5 actors from the show who have also played Marvel Comics characters in the MCU. Leading the list is none other than the man in charge himself, Stallone, followed by Frank Grillo.

Stallone’s Marvel moment came in James Gunn’s ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2’, where he played veteran space ranger Stakar Ogord. It’s a fun contrast to his gruff, old-school mobster in Tulsa.

Grillo, who joined the series in its third season as Bill Bevilaqua, is arguably the most recognizable Marvel villain in the bunch. He played Brock Rumlow, a.k.a. Crossbones, in the MCU from 2014 to 2023, and now appears in Gunn’s DC Universe as Rick Flag Sr.

Martin Starr is another familiar face for Marvel fans. He plays Lawrence “Bodhi” Geigerman, the dispensary owner who becomes part of Dwight’s circle, but MCU audiences know him as Roger Harrington from ‘Spider-Man: Homecoming’ and ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’.

Neal McDonough, who plays Cal Thresher in ‘Tulsa King’, has his own deep Marvel roots. He played Dum Dum Dugan in ‘Captain America: The First Avenger’, a member of Nick Fury’s Howling Commandos known for his marksmanship and trademark bowler hat.

Then there’s the biggest Marvel name of all. Samuel L. Jackson, famous as Nick Fury, joined ‘Tulsa King’ in its third season as Russell Lee Washington Jr., a character who faces off with Stallone and is set to lead his own spinoff.

There’s a neat bit of Marvel history hiding in this crossover. McDonough once said he hoped for a Nick Fury movie alongside Jackson, noting that Dugan is Fury’s right-hand man in the comics, and even wished for a 1970s-set version of the story.

That dream Fury movie never materialized, but the 2 actors now share a franchise in a very different universe. It’s the kind of overlap that makes the cast list a treat for comic book fans.

Annabella Sciorra deserves an honorable mention too. She plays Dwight’s sister Joanne and previously had a recurring role in Netflix’s Marvel shows as gangster Rosalie Carbone in ‘Luke Cage’ and ‘Daredevil’.

Season 4 sees Dwight trying to legitimize his empire and protect his crew as corrupt politicians, dangerous new enemies, and a crushing personal loss hit from every direction. Gretchen Mol joins the main cast as Amanda Clark, a Tulsa politician taking a stand against organized crime.

Terence Winter is back as head writer and executive producer after Season 3 showrunner Dave Erickson’s exit. Meanwhile, the franchise continues to grow with the spinoff ‘Frisco King’, starring Jackson. New episodes arrive every Friday on Paramount+, and the first 3 seasons are available to stream now.
