Marvel’s newest Disney+ series has been stuffed with hidden nods from the start, and the latest Daredevil reference in ‘VisionQuest’ has fans buzzing. Before the show premiered, Paul Bettany promised in an interview with Entertainment Tonight that viewers could expect a surplus of Easter eggs, along with cameos from familiar MCU characters.

He wasn’t exaggerating. The premiere even hid a subtle Scarlet Witch nod, with Vision’s code appearing to spell out “WANDA.CREATE” as it flashes on screen, and fans have been combing every frame since.

Now, Episode 3, titled ‘Reboot’, has delivered a callback to Hell’s Kitchen’s most famous vigilante. During a conversation between Paladin, the fearsome bounty hunter on Vision’s trail, and his Handler, she reminds him of the concussion he got from a steel fiber billy club.

Paladin’s reply seals the deal. He quips, “If you can’t take the heat, get out of Hell’s Kitchen,” a clear nod to Daredevil, whose regular haunt is that very New York neighborhood. The connection runs deeper than a single line. Paladin first appeared in a 1970s ‘Daredevil’ comic, and in the comics, his mercenary work often puts him at odds with heroes like Daredevil and the Punisher.

The billy club line is just one part of a busy backstory reveal. The Handler also brings up a Brooklyn job that left Paladin pulling IED shrapnel from his gut, which he describes as a punishing disagreement with an old friend, a clear wink at the Punisher.

Then comes a deep cut for horror fans. She asks about bite marks from a creature halfway between man and wolf, and Paladin calls the attacker “a perfectly reasonable fella by day,” pointing to ‘Werewolf by Night’ and Jack Russell.

The episode also ties Paladin to one of the MCU’s best-known criminal groups. It establishes that Xialing’s Ten Rings syndicate supplied his adamantium vest, the same armor that saved his life during his battle with Vision.

Episode 3 is overflowing with references beyond Paladin’s past. Marvel Mania highlighted F.R.I.D.A.Y.’s heartbreaking reference to Tony Stark’s death, ‘WandaVision’ sitcom callbacks, a possible nod to Scott Lang’s book, and Tommy’s super-speed powers.

The same episode even found room for a real-world shoutout. E.D.I.T.H. brings up Filipino boxing legend Manny Pacquiao after Tommy’s powers manifest, making the champion part of MCU canon.

Episode 4 kept the trend going. The series reveals that the AIs and their human likenesses are modeled after real people, including Edwin Jarvis, the Stark family butler previously seen in ‘Agent Carter’.

The reference has naturally sparked speculation about a live appearance. As Fiction Horizon noted, nothing has been announced, and for now these nods remain just that: a wink from a show packed with them.

Still, Bettany’s promise of cameos keeps the door open. With Paladin now officially tied to Hell’s Kitchen, fans are wondering whether the man who gave him that concussion could one day settle the score in person.

The series follows a rebooted Vision who, after escaping those who sought to weaponize him, has been living in hiding. Paul Bettany leads the cast alongside Ruaridh Mollica as Tommy Maximoff, Todd Stashwick as Paladin, T’Nia Miller as Jocasta, Orla Brady as F.R.I.D.A.Y., Emily Hampshire as E.D.I.T.H., and James D’Arcy as J.A.R.V.I.S.

Episodes 3 and 4 arrived on Disney+ on October 20. The 8-episode series serves as the final chapter of the trilogy that began with ‘WandaVision’ and continued with ‘Agatha All Along’.
