Few talk show traditions have taken over social media quite like the Spirit Tunnel on ‘The Jennifer Hudson Show’. Before guests ever reach the couch, staffers line a glowing backstage hallway to clap, cheer, and sing a custom-made song in their honor. Emmy Rossum is the latest star to get the treatment, and fans of her long-running ‘Shameless’ days are loving every second of it.

The tradition has quite the origin story. It started as a way for the team to hype up Hudson herself before stepping on set, and gradually evolved into elaborate celebrations for guests. Over time, it has produced some genuinely viral moments, from Aaron Pierre’s smooth ‘Mufasa’ strut to Tom Cruise reviving his ‘Risky Business’ moves in a hallway packed with staffers.

Now, Rossum has added her own chapter to the tunnel’s history. In a clip shared by the show on TikTok, the actress made her way down the hallway in a flowing light blue satin slip dress, dancing and laughing as staffers cheered her on from both sides. The moment quickly made its way to the ‘Shameless’ subreddit, where fans eagerly shared her dance moves with the community.

Pop Crave also posted footage of Rossum arriving on set, with fans in the replies praising her effortlessly chic look. It’s the kind of lighthearted moment the Spirit Tunnel was made for, giving guests a chance to let loose before the interview begins.

Rossum appeared on the Thursday, October 22 episode alongside ‘Reasonable Doubt’ star La La Anthony. During her visit, she opened up about the intense training she went through for her role in the critically acclaimed series ‘Furious’. She and Hudson also bonded over their shared love of opera and talked about their dream of one day making a musical together.

The conversation also touched on music history. Rossum reflected on recording her duet with Dolly Parton, describing the country legend as a wonderful teacher who was down-to-earth to work with. She also shared stories about Julia Roberts and her 5-year-old daughter’s budding filmmaking.

For many viewers, Rossum will always be closely tied to ‘Shameless’, the Showtime drama she starred in from 2009 until 2019. Since then, she has steadily expanded her résumé, appearing in the Apple TV series ‘The Crowded Room’ with Tom Holland and producing projects including the film ‘Comet’ and the series ‘Angelyne’.

Her latest role is a major one. In Hulu’s ‘Furious’, from executive producer Liz Meriwether, Rossum plays FBI agent Alice Black, who is on the hunt for a mysterious and calculating female serial killer played by Lola Petticrew. As their lives begin to intertwine, the line between right and wrong starts to blur.

The series premiered on July 27, marking Rossum’s return to a lead television role with producing involvement. Her talk show appearance gave fans a fun reminder of the personality behind the serious new character.

Rossum’s love of opera runs deep. She first sang at the Metropolitan Opera at Lincoln Center at just 6 years old, alongside Plácido Domingo and Luciano Pavarotti. Given that background, her chat with Hudson about a possible musical collaboration feels like more than just friendly banter.

For now, her joyful Spirit Tunnel entrance is giving fans plenty to smile about, proving that even a decade after ‘Shameless’, Rossum still knows how to steal a scene.
