Netflix Couldn’t Bring ‘Revival’ Back to Life as Syfy’s Supernatural Drama Is Officially Canceled

For a show about the dead mysteriously returning, ‘Revival’ has had a surprisingly hard time finding its own second life. The Syfy supernatural noir premiered on June 12, 2025, on Syfy in the US and CTV Sci-Fi Channel in Canada, adapting the Image Comics series from writer Tim Seeley and artist Mike Norton. Set in the small town of Wausau, Wisconsin, the story follows a community thrown into chaos when the recently deceased suddenly rise from their graves.

The comic itself came with plenty of pedigree, earning 3 Harvey Award nominations. Created by showrunners Aaron B. Koontz and Luke Boyce and filmed in New Brunswick, Canada, the series starred ‘Wynonna Earp’ alum Melanie Scrofano as Dana Cypress, a single mother and cop constantly trying to prove herself to the stubborn local sheriff, who also happens to be her father. Koontz was clearly proud of his lead, telling SYFY WIRE, “Yes, I’m biased, but I think it’s her best work.”

After its 10-episode first season wrapped on Syfy in August 2025, the network went quiet on the show’s future. The series also had an encore run on Peacock, but fans were left waiting for any word on a second season.

Will Netflix Bring Back ‘Nobody Wants This’ for a Fourth Season?

That changed in August, when Netflix picked up the first season in the United States, with all 10 episodes arriving on August 24, 2026. The cast, creative team, and fans rallied to promote the move, hoping that strong numbers on the streaming giant could help secure more episodes.

Unfortunately, that hope has now been dashed. According to TVLine‘s Matt’s Inside Line, sources at both Syfy and distributor Dynamic Television have confirmed that ‘Revival’ will not be returning for a second season. The news arrives just 2 months after the series debuted on Netflix.

What’s on Netflix noted that ‘Revival’ was a licensed title rather than a Netflix original, and it never cracked the streamer’s weekly global top 10 lists during its run. Any boost from its August debut apparently wasn’t enough to change the calculus at Syfy or Dynamic Television.

The way the news surfaced has frustrated some fans. Syfy never made an official announcement, and the update only emerged after a reader asked Matt’s Inside Line about the show’s status. Cancelled Sci Fi described it as part of a troubling trend of networks quietly passing on new seasons without ever formally addressing a series’ fate.

The site also pointed out that ‘Revival’ wasn’t an expensive show to produce. Even so, no network or streamer has stepped forward with a deal to continue the story, leaving several storylines unresolved.

Alongside Scrofano, the series featured Romy Weltman as Em Cypress, David James Elliott as Sheriff Wayne Cypress, and Andy McQueen. The show was produced by Blue Ice Pictures and Hemmings Films.

For fans who connected with the Cypress family and the eerie mystery of Wausau, the cancellation means the first season will stand as the only chapter of the adaptation. The decision also leaves Syfy with a remarkably thin original lineup. The network’s only remaining original series is ‘The Ark’, which wrapped its third season on October 14 but has not yet been renewed.

While a comeback isn’t entirely impossible if another partner steps in, there’s currently no indication that a rescue is coming. For now, the dead in Wausau appear to be staying buried for good.

Do you think Revival deserved a second season after its cancellation?
