Marvel’s Retro Fantastic Four Poster Hypes the ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ Ballpark Surprise
The countdown to Marvel’s ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ special look is officially in its final hours, and the studio is having a lot of fun with it. A new preview of the film is set to debut during Game 1 of the World Series between the Tampa Bay Rays and the Milwaukee Brewers, airing on FOX at 8 p.m. ET. MLB kicked off the hype with a stormy teaser that featured stars like Bryce Harper, Freddie Freeman, and Junior Caminero staring up at a glowing Avengers logo in the sky.
Marvel has been building toward this moment for months. The studio has already released 4 main teaser trailers, a full trailer and a special look for the film, which hits theaters on December 18. With the Russo brothers’ crossover now less than 2 months away, the World Series reveal marks yet another high-profile stop in an aggressive global campaign.
Now, Marvel has dropped a brand-new Fantastic Four poster to hype the upcoming special look. Styled like a vintage ballpark advertisement, the artwork announces “Fantastic 4 Day at the Game Friday,” presented by the fictional Frosty Treat brand. It invites fans to come for a fantastic opening pitch and stay for the 7th inning stretch.
The poster is packed with playful nods to the team. A stretchy blue arm, clearly belonging to Reed Richards, reaches out with a baseball glove to catch the ball, while the bottom of the poster teases which team will “Flame On” and which will get “Clobbered,” referencing the signature catchphrases of the Human Torch and the Thing.

The poster lines up perfectly with the long-rumored baseball scene. The official Fantastic Four Instagram account also hinted that a fantastic surprise awaits viewers tuning in to America’s pastime, playfully crediting Frosty Treats in collaboration with the Future Foundation. Days earlier, the account shared another promo joking that nothing is more daunting for the team than stepping up to bat.
The prevailing theory is that the footage will feature members of the Fantastic Four attending a baseball game on their retro-futuristic Earth-828. Murphy’s Multiverse reports the sequence may include Reed Richards, Johnny Storm, and Ben Grimm, along with a possible appearance from Steve Rogers in the stands.

The scene has an interesting history. According to Murphy’s Multiverse, it was reportedly shot with the intention of serving as a post-credits stinger for ‘The Fantastic Four: First Steps’. Rumors about a ballpark sequence date back to filming, when insider Daniel Richtman reported that Marvel was shooting scenes at a baseball game on the Fantastic Four’s Earth.
Several outlets now expect the World Series footage to be an extended clip rather than a traditional trailer. Marvel hasn’t confirmed the format, so fans will have to tune in to find out exactly what’s in store.
The Fantastic Four are set to play a major role in ‘Avengers: Doomsday’, which brings together the Avengers, the X-Men and the Wakandans to face Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom. Pedro Pascal returns as Reed Richards, Vanessa Kirby as Sue Storm, Joseph Quinn as Johnny Storm and Ebon Moss-Bachrach as Ben Grimm.

Their arrival in the MCU’s wider conflict has been teased since the fourth ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ teaser, which showed Ben Grimm meeting Shuri and King M’Baku in the desert. Tonight’s preview could finally show how the retro-futuristic team crosses paths with the rest of Marvel’s heroes.
Fans planning to watch should settle in for a bit. ComicBook.com previously noted that there’s almost no chance the footage airs at the very top of the broadcast, so viewers may need to wait a few innings before the Fantastic Four take the field. Either way, the retro poster has turned a simple baseball game into a full-blown Marvel event, and fans are more than ready for the first pitch.
