Oscar Nominee Renate Reinsve Reportedly Met With Marvel About Playing Moira MacTaggert in ‘X-Men’
Marvel’s ‘X-Men’ reboot has been steadily assembling one of the most intriguing casts in the studio’s history. Directed by ‘Thunderbolts*’ filmmaker Jake Schreier, the film has already lined up Christopher Abbott as Professor X, Inde Navarrette as Rogue, Sadie Sink as Jean Grey, Kit Connor as Cyclops, Samara Weaving as Emma Frost, and Maya Boyd as Storm, with Adam Driver playing the villain Mr. Sinister and Peter Claffey reportedly joining as Beast.
Earlier this month, scooper Caleb Williams of Knight Edge Media reported that Moira MacTaggert was expected to have a small role in the film and that casting was underway. Marvel has not confirmed whether the character will appear.
Now a surprising name has entered the conversation. According to Williams, as shared by Cosmic Marvel, Renate Reinsve has reportedly met with Marvel Studios about playing Moira MacTaggert in the ‘X-Men’ reboot.
As with any early casting report, nothing is official yet. Marvel has not commented, and it remains unclear whether the meeting will lead to a deal. Still, the report has quickly grabbed fans’ attention, largely because of who Reinsve is and how different she is from the studio’s other recent picks.
Reinsve carries serious prestige. The Norwegian actress previously won Best Actress at Cannes for ‘The Worst Person in the World’, and she earned a Best Actress Oscar nomination this year for Joachim Trier’s ‘Sentimental Value’.

That film won the Grand Prix at Cannes, collected 9 Oscar nominations and became the first Norwegian film to win Best International Feature in March. Reinsve has also appeared in ‘A Different Man’, ‘Armand’ and the series ‘Presumed Innocent’, as well as this year’s horror hit ‘Backrooms’.
Her possible involvement stands out because Marvel has largely leaned toward younger and lesser-known actors for the reboot, which Kevin Feige has described as youth-focused.
The report is especially interesting given Reinsve’s past comments. In a December 2025 interview with Josh Horowitz, she said she didn’t want to join a Marvel movie, explaining that it didn’t feel like the right fit for her.
Moira might offer a different path, though. For most of her history in the comics, Moira was a human ally of the X-Men rather than a superpowered hero, which could allow an actress known for personal, character-driven work to avoid heavy superhero action.
Moira MacTaggert is a Scottish geneticist and a longtime ally of Charles Xavier. For the first 44 years of her comic book history, she was depicted mainly as a supporting character, providing medical aid and support to the X-Men and the New Mutants.
That changed in the Krakoan Era, when she was revealed to be a mutant herself, later known as Moira X. She eventually betrayed the mutant cause and became an antagonist to the X-Men, making her one of the franchise’s most complex figures.
Some reports suggest her presence could tie into the film’s larger story, especially with Mr. Sinister in the mix, though Marvel has shared no plot details. Whether Moira ends up as a brief appearance or the start of something bigger, Reinsve would bring considerable dramatic weight to the role.
Her potential casting would signal that Marvel is willing to pair its young core cast with acclaimed talent in key supporting parts. For now, fans will be watching closely for the next round of ‘X-Men’ casting news to see if this report becomes official.
