A Mystery ATM Is Giving Away Free Cash in Los Angeles To Promote ‘How To Rob a Bank’
Movie marketing is getting more creative, and Amazon MGM Studios just found a fitting way to hype David Leitch’s ‘How to Rob a Bank’. The upcoming heist thriller is about criminals who become online celebrities, and its latest promotion lets Los Angeles residents join in the fun without breaking any laws.
The film follows a crew of social media-savvy bank robbers who livestream their increasingly daring heists and build a huge following. As their fame grows, a veteran FBI agent and a gifted software engineer start closing in, while the crew plans its most ambitious job yet. Mark Bianculli wrote the screenplay, which he developed with Imagine Entertainment for several years before Leitch came aboard.
The new campaign brings that premise into the real world. As DiscussingFilm reported, an ATM has been set up around Los Angeles that gives out free money to anyone who can figure out both its location and its PIN code.
Photos and video of the stunt show a bright green and pink machine with the movie’s title painted on its side and a wolf logo on the front. In one clip, a participant enters a code on a screen that reads “ENTER CODE,” while another image shows a masked figure in a wolf costume standing beside the machine with a sign promoting the campaign.

That sign points to a dedicated website, whoshungryla.com, which gives clues about where the ATM will show up next. The format turns the promotion into a citywide treasure hunt, rewarding fans willing to solve puzzles and follow the trail.
The stunt mirrors the story. In the movie, the robbers treat their crimes as content and use their online audience to build fame, even though that same attention could eventually bring them down.

By asking people to follow online clues, track down a location, and crack a code, the campaign gives fans a small taste of the film’s mix of digital culture and heist adventure. It’s also the kind of event that spreads quickly on social media, which suits a movie about viral criminals.
Leitch, known for ‘Atomic Blonde’, ‘Deadpool 2’, ‘Bullet Train’ and ‘The Fall Guy’, directs and produces through his company 87North. The cast is led by Nicholas Hoult, with Zoë Kravitz, Pete Davidson, John C. Reilly, Anna Sawai, Rhenzy Feliz and Christian Slater.

Reilly plays Agent West, the FBI agent on the crew’s trail, while Kravitz plays Reagan Gardner and Davidson plays Vince. Brian Grazer is among the producers, and the film was shot in Pittsburgh starting in June 2025.
Amazon MGM Studios has been ramping up the marketing ahead of release. After trailers in June and September, the studio released a new look this week, featuring fresh footage of Kravitz and Reilly and a scene built around the line “You Don’t Smell Busy.”
The R-rated film was originally set for September 4 before moving to its new date. It now opens exclusively in theaters on November 13, with a runtime of 122 minutes, and Sony Pictures Releasing International is handling the overseas release.

Los Angeles fans have another way to see it early. The American Cinematheque will host an advance screening at the Aero Theatre in Santa Monica on November 7 as part of a David Leitch retrospective, followed by a Q&A with the director moderated by screenwriter Jon Spaihts. Until then, the city’s mysterious ATM is the closest anyone can legally get to pulling off a bank job. Fans who want to try their luck will need to keep an eye on the clues.
