‘The Hunger Games’ Star Mckenna Grace Covers Cosmopolitan and Shares the Dream Role She’s Saving Herself For
Mckenna Grace is having a big moment. The actress plays District 12 tribute Maysilee Donner, along with her twin Merrilee, in ‘The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping’, which reaches theaters on November 20.
She has also been one of the standouts of the film’s press tour, with a series of outfits that pay tribute to earlier ‘Hunger Games’ films. Her latest appearance takes her from the red carpet to a magazine cover.
Grace is one of the stars of Cosmopolitan’s new winter issue, which celebrates the next generation of ‘The Hunger Games’. She got her own digital cover, alongside separate covers for her co-stars Whitney Peak and Maya Hawke.
Photographed by Richard Kern, Grace’s cover shows her in a blue patterned Miu Miu set while holding a tiny Yorkie. Inside, she wears a dark denim jacket and jeans with gold lion-head buttons, and in another shot she poses in a cream slip dress on a bed covered in magazines and red roses.
The cover line announces that ‘The Hunger Games’ crowns a new generation. The 3 actresses also appear in matching group bodysuits with their names stitched in script. Grace also opened up about the kind of career she wants. “My dream is to try and be a Disney princess someday,” she told Cosmopolitan.

That goal guides the roles she takes on. Grace explained that, for now, she avoids projects involving nudity or highly sexual content, while making clear that she respects actors who choose differently.
She also pushed back on the idea that she only does wholesome work. Grace pointed to her darker role in ‘Scream’ as proof that she isn’t afraid of more intense material. Grace’s love for the franchise goes back well before she joined the cast. She told the magazine she was a fan long before getting the role and has even made fan edits of the films.

After it came out that she had made a “Team Peeta” edit featuring Josh Hutcherson’s character, she jokingly called herself a “CapCut warrior.” Fans who have followed her press tour won’t be surprised.

That enthusiasm has shaped her red carpet looks as well. Grace has referenced Katniss’ wedding dress from ‘Catching Fire’, Rue’s outfit from the first film, and Lucy Gray Baird’s ruffled look from ‘The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes’.
Peak, who plays Lenore Dove Baird, also opened up in the issue about joining the franchise. She admitted she felt in over her head when she first came on board. Hawke plays a younger version of Wiress in the prequel. Her cover features a red satin slip dress against a white backdrop, and other images show her in a striped knit sweater with thin wire glasses.

The film is set 24 years before the original ‘The Hunger Games’ and follows a young Haymitch Abernathy, played by Joseph Zada, after he’s chosen for the 50th Hunger Games. Because it’s a Quarter Quell, each district sends twice the usual number of tributes.
Francis Lawrence directs from a screenplay by Billy Ray and Michael Lesslie, based on Suzanne Collins’ novel. The cast also includes Elle Fanning, Ralph Fiennes, Jesse Plemons, Kieran Culkin and Glenn Close.

Grace’s career began with roles in ‘Crash & Bernstein’ and ‘The Haunting of Hill House’. Between the cover and her role as Maysilee, she is clearly one of the faces of the franchise’s next chapter.
