Mckenna Grace has built a career that crosses many genres. She has appeared in horror projects like ‘The Haunting of Hill House’ and ‘Scream’, plays Daphne in Netflix’s live-action ‘Scooby-Doo’ series, and now stars as Maysilee Donner in ‘The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping’.

With the ‘Hunger Games’ prequel opening in theaters on November 20, Grace has been everywhere lately. She is also one of the faces of Cosmopolitan’s new digital issue celebrating the franchise’s next generation, with separate covers for co-stars Whitney Peak and Maya Hawke.

In her cover interview, Grace revealed the role she would most love to play. “My dream is to try and be a Disney princess someday,” she told Cosmopolitan. The post quickly sparked conversation about which Disney role would suit her best.

Grace explained that this goal helps guide the roles she chooses. For now, she said, she avoids projects involving nudity or highly sexual content, adding that she respects actors who do that work but finds it terrifying herself.

She also admitted she doesn’t know whether that will ever change. Her honesty about her boundaries earned praise from many fans after Variety and Deadline reported the comments.

Still, Grace made it clear that her choices don’t limit her to safe projects. She noted that her character is gutted by Ghostface in ‘Scream’, a reminder that she’s comfortable with darker material.

Grace’s excitement about her career comes through in other parts of the interview too. She told Cosmopolitan she was a ‘Hunger Games’ fan long before joining the cast and has even made fan edits of the films.

After it came out that she had made a “Team Peeta” edit featuring Josh Hutcherson’s character, she jokingly called herself a “CapCut warrior.” That playful side has made her one of the most charming parts of the film’s promotion.

Her fandom has also shown up on the red carpet. Throughout the press tour, Grace has worn looks inspired by Katniss’ wedding dress from ‘Catching Fire’, Rue’s outfit from the first film, and Lucy Gray Baird’s ruffled style from ‘The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes’.

Richard Kern photographed Grace’s Cosmopolitan cover, which shows her in a blue patterned Miu Miu set while holding a tiny Yorkie. Inside the issue, she poses in a dark denim outfit with gold lion-head buttons and in a cream slip dress on a bed covered in magazines and red roses.

The cover line announces that ‘The Hunger Games’ is crowning a new generation. Grace’s mix of franchise fandom and personal ambition fits that theme well. Before any royal role, Grace has an arena to survive. ‘Sunrise on the Reaping’ is set 24 years before the original ‘The Hunger Games’ and follows a young Haymitch Abernathy, played by Joseph Zada, through a Quarter Quell.

Francis Lawrence directs from a screenplay by Billy Ray and Michael Lesslie, based on Suzanne Collins’ novel. The cast also includes Elle Fanning, Ralph Fiennes, Jesse Plemons and Glenn Close.

Disney hasn’t announced any project with Grace, so her princess dream remains just that for now. But with her range, her large fan base, and a major franchise role on the way, she’s building the kind of profile studios notice. If her career continues on this path, fans may one day see her trade District 12 for a castle.
