Netflix’s ‘Possible Love’ Release Date, Trailer, Cast and What the Film Is About

Lee Chang-dong’s ‘Possible Love’ arrives globally on Netflix on November 6. The drama is the director’s first project in eight years. That long gap has made the film one of the more closely watched arrivals on the streaming calendar.

Before it reaches subscribers, ‘Possible Love’ is receiving invitations to major festivals and a run in cinemas. With the premiere only days away, here is a clear look at the release plans, the trailers, the cast and the story behind the film.

‘Possible Love’ Release Date and Where to Watch

Netflix has confirmed that ‘Possible Love’ will stream worldwide on November 6. A report from the Korean distributor NEW says the streaming debut will reach about 190 countries.

The film is taking a theatrical route first. Cinemas in Korea opened on September 23, followed by Australia on October 22, and then the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Ireland and Japan on October 23.

The film was invited to the Competition at the 83rd Venice International Film Festival and to the Special Presentations section of the 51st Toronto International Film Festival. Netflix has positioned the project for the awards conversation as well. Screen Daily noted that the release plan places the feature in the awards corridor and suggests a push for the next Academy Awards.

South Korea has also selected the film as its submission for the Best International Feature Film category. That choice adds to the sense that this is a prestige release rather than a routine streaming addition.

The ‘Possible Love’ Trailer and Early Critic Reaction

Netflix shared its first official trailer for ‘Possible Love’ in late August. A final trailer followed on October 20, arriving after the film had already drawn acclaim at international festivals.

The final trailer opens with Mi-ok, played by Jeon Do-yeon, singing a lyric about love while wearing a smile tinged with sorrow. She hints that her husband Ho-seok is hiding something he is too afraid to confront, and she later breaks into tears before the documentary camera.

The footage shows Ye-ji, the filmmaker, watching with glistening eyes, which raises questions about her motives. Ye-ji then suggests that both couples take a vacation together, and glimpses of Mi-ok and Ho-seok’s past deepen the intrigue.

Critical response has been strong, at least according to the material Netflix has gathered. The promotional release highlights praise from IndieWire, New York Magazine, Variety and Radio Times, along with a Hollywood Reporter critic who called it “The film of the year.” Those are selected endorsements, so viewers may want to wait for a wider spread of reviews before settling on a verdict.

‘Possible Love’ Cast and Creative Team

Jeon Do-yeon stars as Mi-ok, and Sul Kyung-gu plays her husband Ho-seok. Cho Yeo-jeong plays documentary filmmaker Ye-ji, while Zo In-sung plays her husband Sang-woo.

Netflix describes the group as one of the biggest ensembles of Korean talent to appear together in a single film. That billing puts the focus squarely on the four central performances.

Jeon Do-yeon is among South Korea’s most acclaimed actresses, with credits that include ‘The Housemaid’ and ‘Kill Boksoon’. Zo In-sung is best known for ‘Smugglers’ and ‘Moving’.

Behind the camera, the film carries a notable pedigree. Lee Chang-dong returns eight years after ‘Burning’ rocked the Cannes competition. He co-wrote the screenplay with Oh Jung-mi, and the production companies are Pinehouse Film, Anonymous Content and NOWFILM.

What ‘Possible Love’ Is About

The film follows two married couples, a laid off worker and his wife, and a documentary filmmaker and her husband. Their paths cross when the filmmaker sets out to film them, which brings both marriages face to face with their different lives and hidden desires.

The marketing leans into tension rather than spectacle. The date announcement poster shows Mi-ok and Ye-ji standing apart beneath moonlit trees at dawn, an unsettling image that hints at the reckoning both couples are about to face.

The trailer fills in some of the emotional background. Mi-ok’s words point to years of strain that the couple has endured since her husband’s layoff. Set against a documentary project, that strain appears to become something the characters can no longer keep private.

With the film now two days from streaming, the question is how its central meeting of two very different marriages will play for viewers at home. Do you expect Mi-ok and Ye-ji’s uneasy friendship to be the emotional core of ‘Possible Love’, or will the quiet secrets between the husbands steal the story?
