Choosing something to watch on Netflix can take longer than watching it. The streamer has been working on ways to make discovery easier, including a redesigned TV homepage in 2025 and a new test this week that brings back a left-hand navigation menu on TVs.

Netflix is now going a step further by adding artificial intelligence to how viewers browse. The company is treating its newest feature as an experiment, and it could shape how members find shows and movies in the future.

As DiscussingFilm shared, Netflix is rolling out an AI recommendation feature called AI Discover. Users are invited to explore titles through preset themes and then get recommendations tailored to them.

According to TechCrunch, the feature lives in a new “Discover” tab in the TV app. Eligible users will see the tab in the top navigation bar, marked with a red gem icon and a “New” label. The tab opens with a simple question: “Ready for something new?” From there, viewers can browse a row of themed options, each represented by a clip from a show or movie.

The themes are built around how viewers feel, who they’re watching with, and how much time they have. Examples include “Something Light,” “Scare Me,” “Family Movie Night,” and “Quick Watches,” while the preview image also shows themes such as “Outsmart Everyone” and “Royal Court Intrigue.”

After a viewer chooses a theme, AI Discover shows matching recommendations. More specific themes then appear to help narrow the list, and a “Something Different” option brings up a fresh set of picks. Netflix is also giving viewers a new way to shape what they see. Each title includes a “Tune Your Recommendations” button next to Play and My List.

The button lets users keep a recommendation in their lineup or stop it from being suggested again within AI Discover. Netflix says the feature runs on a new intelligence layer that responds to users in real time and keeps learning from their choices.

Unlike some AI tools, there’s no chat box. What’s on Netflix noted that viewers can’t type open-ended requests yet, so the experience relies on the preset themes. Netflix has described AI Discover as its test kitchen for trying new discovery ideas.

In its announcement, the company said feedback from users will help decide which features are improved and which ones might eventually reach the main Netflix experience. That makes the tab a preview of where the platform could be heading. If viewers respond well, AI-driven themes could become a bigger part of how everyone browses Netflix.

The rollout starts with a limited group of U.S. members who use Netflix in English on supported TVs. Netflix plans to expand access over the coming weeks, but it hasn’t said how many people are included.

According to What’s on Netflix, members can’t sign up for the test or remove the tab if they’re included. The feature is available only on standard profiles, not kids profiles, and Netflix hasn’t announced plans for mobile, other languages, or other countries.

AI Discover launched on November 3, the same day Netflix began testing a TV app layout that moves the main menu back to the left side of the screen. Together, the tests show how actively the company is rethinking its interface. Whether viewers embrace AI-powered picks remains to be seen, but Netflix clearly wants to make the “what should I watch?” moment a little easier.
