Denzel Washington, Robert Pattinson and Daisy Edgar-Jones make one of the most intriguing trios in any upcoming thriller. The 3 stars lead a Netflix heist film directed by Fernando Meirelles, best known for ‘City of God’ and for Netflix’s ‘The Two Popes’.

The project has been in development for years. Netflix acquired Simon Kinberg’s script in a 7-figure deal in May 2020, and Jason Bateman was reported that summer to be in talks to direct and possibly star.

Fans who have been following the film under its original name will need to update their watchlists. As What’s on Netflix shared, the movie formerly known as ‘Here Comes the Flood’ is now called ‘The Take’.

Netflix’s project page now uses the new title, though the streamer hasn’t explained the change. FilmoFilia, citing Digital Spy, noted that this is the same film and not a new project for its stars. The film is set to arrive on Netflix in 2027. No exact release date has been announced yet.

The logline keeps the story simple but tense. According to Netflix, a bank guard, a teller, and a master thief get caught in a deadly game of cons and double crosses. Netflix hasn’t revealed which star plays which role. That mystery leaves fans guessing how Washington, Pattinson and Edgar-Jones fit into the scheme.

The leads are backed by an impressive ensemble. Danai Gurira, Sean Harris, Moisés Arias and Justin Kirk joined the cast in November 2025, shortly before filming began. What’s on Netflix also lists Anthony Molinari, Jacob Moskovitz, Andrea Bianchi, Vincent Riotta and Vince Eisenson among the supporting players. Julia Cleary, Yediel Quiles, Mayssae El Halla, Brian Muller, Colin Richard Allen and Jordan Rodriguez round out the cast.

Kinberg, whose credits include ‘Deadpool’, wrote the screenplay. He also produces through his Genre Films banner alongside Audrey Chon and Meirelles, with Samson Mucke serving as executive producer. Washington, Pattinson and Edgar-Jones were officially announced in May 2025 with Meirelles attached to direct. The project then moved quickly into production.

Principal photography began on November 3, 2025, and wrapped on January 22, 2026. Shooting took place in Jersey City, Hoboken, Newark, Atlanta and New York City, with filming also spotted in Paterson, New Jersey.

The film is now in post-production. That leaves time for Netflix to fine-tune its release plans for next year. ‘The Take’ is a notable step for 2 of its leads. According to What’s on Netflix, it marks the first Netflix original for both Washington and Edgar-Jones.

Pattinson, meanwhile, has worked with the streamer before on ‘The King’ and ‘The Devil All the Time’. With all 3 stars bringing big fan bases, the film could become one of Netflix’s most anticipated releases next year. For now, fans will have to wait for a trailer to see how the cons and double crosses play out.
