Marvel’s ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ is shaping up to be one of the biggest movie events of the year. Directed by Joe and Anthony Russo, the film brings together the Avengers, the Fantastic Four, the Wakandans and the X-Men to face Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom when it opens on December 18.

Fans have been buying tickets for months. When presales opened on July 20, the film reportedly earned $16.5 million in 24 hours from premium-format screenings at around 1,000 domestic theaters, roughly double the first-day presales of ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’.

Now the film appears to have reached another landmark. According to a post shared on Reddit’s r/boxoffice community, citing box office tracker ThatWaluigiDude, ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ has now passed 1 million tickets sold.

The figure comes from independent tracking, not an official Disney announcement, so it should be treated as an estimate. Still, crossing that mark with more than a month to go is a strong sign of the film’s demand.

The ticket count lines up with other reports of strong advance sales. Forbes reported that worldwide presales have passed $125 million, including about $65 million domestically and $60 million overseas.

Disney confirmed in September that domestic advance sales had topped $50 million, with the CFO sharing the figure. Global Box Office had earlier reported that worldwide presales passed $100 million in early October.

The film has also set records abroad. The same tracker said ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ became the fastest film to reach $1 million in presales in both the U.K. and Brazil. The numbers put the film in elite company. According to MickeyBlog, ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ holds the Marvel presale record at $150 million, while ‘Avengers: Endgame’ sold $130 million in advance.

‘Avengers: Doomsday’ hasn’t passed those totals yet, but it has been moving quickly. One analysis said it crossed $40 million in domestic presales with about 100 days left before release, a mark ‘Brand New Day’ didn’t reach until roughly 40 days before opening.

Trackers are projecting a huge debut. Global Box Office expects a domestic opening of $250 million to $300 million, which would rank among the biggest of all time. Some projections go even higher, with one tracker suggesting $425 million to $450 million, though that estimate is considered speculative.

‘Brand New Day’ currently holds the domestic opening record at $360 million, narrowly ahead of ‘Endgame’ at $357.1 million. ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ won’t have the weekend to itself. Denis Villeneuve’s ‘Dune: Part Three’ opens on the same day, setting up one of the biggest box office clashes in recent memory.

One tracker says the Marvel film is currently outselling ‘Dune: Part Three’ by between 3.2 and 4 tickets to 1. Analysts believe the combined weekend could challenge the $402 million total from ‘Endgame’ opening weekend.

Presales don’t always predict final turnout, and reviews and word of mouth could still change the outlook. Even so, the momentum behind the film is hard to ignore. With more than a month left before opening night, the ticket count is likely to keep climbing as more fans lock in their seats.
