Netflix Unveils First Trailer for Cameron Diaz’s ‘Bad Day’ and Confirms Release Date
Cameron Diaz’s return to acting has been one of Hollywood’s more welcome comebacks. After stepping away from films for roughly a decade, she returned in 2025’s ‘Back in Action’, co-starring Jamie Foxx, Glenn Close and Kyle Chandler.
Now Diaz is teaming up with Netflix again for another action comedy. Her new film, ‘Bad Day’, was first announced in July 2025 and shot in New Jersey that September. Netflix has now released the trailer and set a date. As the streamer announced, Diaz is having a very bad day in this new action comedy, which premieres on December 11.
Diaz plays Joy, a single mom who fights to keep one little promise to her daughter on the absolute worst day of her life. Netflix’s official listing describes it as one of the worst and wildest days of Joy’s life.
The trailer leans into escalating chaos. JoBlo describes it as a comedic take on ‘Falling Down’, with Joy’s situation spiraling until she ends up as a wanted person. The Playlist has dubbed the film a “mom-com,” and the trailer opens with a seemingly ordinary school bus scene before things quickly fall apart.
Netflix lists the film’s runtime at 1 hour and 40 minutes. Jake Szymanski, known for ‘Jury Duty’, directs from a screenplay by Laura Solon. Solon also serves as an executive producer alongside Mark Moran.

Beau Bauman produces through Good One Productions, with Jeremy Mittleman as co-producer. Szymanski’s background in comedy makes him a natural fit for a story built around one disaster after another.
Diaz is backed by a stacked supporting cast. Danielle Brooks, Ed O’Neill, Rhenzy Feliz, John Higgins, and Mark Duplass all appear, along with Rob Corddry and Ben Schwartz. JoBlo reports that Feliz plays Casey, Jessica Belkin plays Bella, and Emma Pearson plays Katie. The cast also includes Sam Richardson, Retta, Ayden Mayeri, Sherry Cola, P.J. Byrne, Edi Patterson, Beck Bennett and K Callan.
Principal photography took place in New Jersey in September 2025. Locations included Plainfield, East Windsor, Bloomfield and Perth Amboy. That suburban setting shows up in the trailer, which features tree-lined streets and a neighborhood school bus stop. The everyday backdrop makes Joy’s unraveling day all the more chaotic.
‘Bad Day’ marks another step in Diaz’s return to the screen. After her long break, ‘Back in Action’ brought her back to action comedy, and this new film continues in that vein with a more personal, family-centered story.
With a December release, the film is set to land just before the holiday season. Its mix of chaos and heart could make it an easy pick for a family movie night. The trailer gives fans a taste of the escalating mishaps to come. With Diaz at the center and a deep bench of comedic talent around her, ‘Bad Day’ looks like a fast-paced ride.
