‘Avengers: Doomsday’ Synopsis Reveals the MCU’s Heroes Don’t Trust Each Other, and That Could Be Doom’s Biggest Advantage
With just over a month until release, every new detail about ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ gets studied like a clue, and the latest synopsis is no exception. Anticipation is already sky-high, since the film’s July trailer became the second-biggest movie trailer launch on record and Disney’s most-viewed trailer to date.
Until now, Marvel’s official plot details had been fairly broad. An earlier description told the story of heroes from 3 universes who are “set on a deadly collision course and face an existential threat unlike anything they’ve ever encountered.” That villain, of course, is Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom.
The new synopsis goes further and adds a twist. It comes from the book ‘From Endgame to Doomsday: A Marvel Studios Visual Dictionary: Avengers, Allies, and Foes’, and it reads, “As a new existential threat emerges, courageous teams from three universes must come together to prevent a catastrophic event.”
It goes on to say that the Avengers, the New Avengers, the Wakandans, the Fantastic Four and the X-Men “will need to put aside their suspicions of each other to work together against a force more powerful than any of these groups have faced before.”
That word “suspicions” is doing a lot of work. The trailers have already shown the Avengers and the X-Men fighting, and this synopsis suggests the rest of the gathered heroes won’t be one happy family either, with tension running between the teams.
New synopsis for ‘AVENGERS: DOOMSDAY’: “As a new existential threat emerges, courageous teams from three universes must come together to prevent a catastrophic event. The Avengers, the New Avengers, the Wakandans, the Fantastic Four, and the X-Men will need to put aside their suspicions of each other to work together against a force more powerful than any of these groups have faced before. Their choices and actions in this crucial moment will lay the foundation for the future of the Multiverse.”

It also means the conflict isn’t only about Doom. The new synopsis confirms that tension between the teams will matter just as much as the threat they face. For a villain as calculating as Doom, a divided group of heroes is the perfect opening.
The synopsis closes on its biggest hint about the film’s long-term impact, stating that the heroes’ “choices and actions in this crucial moment will lay the foundation for the future of the Multiverse.” That future likely revolves around the threat of incursions, which form part of the plot.

That fits the film’s role as the start of the MCU’s endgame. ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ is scheduled for release on December 18 as part of Phase Six, and it sets up ‘Avengers: Secret Wars’, which follows on December 17, 2027.
Not everyone is thrilled with the wording. Some fans suspect ‘Doomsday’ might be billing itself as a multiversal event while limiting itself to just a few universes on screen, which was a major complaint about ‘Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness’.

Others hope the synopsis is just identifying the main groups of heroes rather than setting hard limits on the story. Either way, the 3 core worlds appear to be the mainline MCU, where the Avengers are from, the Fantastic Four’s reality, and the X-Men’s world.
Whatever the debate, audiences are clearly showing up. According to Variety, ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ generated $16.5 million in advance ticket sales on its first day, even though tickets were initially limited to premium formats at just 1,000 domestic theaters.

The numbers only grew from there. The film topped $50 million in domestic ticket pre-sales with more than 3 months still to go before release, and it has reportedly crossed $125 million in worldwide advance ticket sales.
With the Russo Brothers back in the director’s chair and 5 superhero teams forced into an uneasy alliance, the real question may be whether the heroes can trust each other before Doom takes them apart.
Which two teams do you think will clash the most in Avengers: Doomsday before joining forces against Doctor Doom?
