‘Avengers: Doomsday’ Tucks Latveria Between the Mountains, and Comic Fans Are Loving the Accuracy
For decades, Latveria has been one of Marvel’s most iconic fictional nations, and ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ is finally bringing Doctor Doom’s homeland to the big screen. The country was created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby and first appeared in ‘Fantastic Four Annual’ #2 in 1964.
Its place in Marvel lore runs deep. For almost 60 years, the small Eastern European country has been ruled by Victor Von Doom, who, in the comics, returned to Latveria, conquered his homeland, made himself king, and renamed the capital city Doomstadt.
Now fans have spotted a detail in the film’s marketing that lines up neatly with that history. A fan account shared side-by-side images comparing the mountain-ringed landscape from the new Jeep tie-in ads with classic comic art, pointing out that Latveria in ‘Doomsday’ sits between the mountains, just like it does in the comics.
The images come from an unlikely source. A new Jeep commercial tied to ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ offers a glimpse of Doctor Doom’s fictional homeland, showing a massive, dark tower surrounded by mountains. It also marks the first time Latveria has appeared in the MCU.

The fan comparison pairs frames from the ad, showing the “Assembling Soon” tagline against jagged peaks and the towering structure, with a comic illustration of a castle perched on a hill above a sprawling town. Seen together, the similarities in setting are hard to miss.
The mountainous setting isn’t a random creative choice. In the comics, Latveria is surrounded by the Carpathian Mountains and borders fictional Symkaria, home of Silver Sable, to the south. Some sources describe it as sitting in eastern Europe where Hungary, Romania, and Serbia meet.

The capital’s layout has a familiar feel, too. In the comics, Castle Doom overlooks the Latverian capital of Doomstadt, formerly known as Hassenstadt, which matches the classic image of a fortress watching over the city below.
There is one big difference, though. Instead of a medieval castle, the MCU appears to be giving Doom a glassy skyscraper, and it’s unclear whether the tower replaces the castle or is simply his city home.

Marvel has been teasing that tower for a while. Promo art released on October 4 gave fans a first look at Doomstadt Tower, Doom’s Latverian headquarters, with a green and yellow mosaic across its front that suggests it houses his throne room.
Composer Alan Silvestri also accidentally confirmed the location earlier this year when a now-deleted Instagram post showed “Armor Room. Doomstadt.” in the background of his recording suite.

The blend of ancient landscape and futuristic architecture suits the character perfectly. In the comics, Castle Doom is an ancient castle fitted with modern technology, and the MCU’s version of Latveria seems to follow that same spirit on a bigger scale. It also matches how Marvel is framing Doom himself. The studio’s official description calls Victor Von Doom the monarch of Latveria and a master of both sorcery and technology.

For longtime readers, seeing those mountains on screen is a small but meaningful sign that the Russo Brothers are respecting the source material. Fans will get the full picture when ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ hits theaters on December 18.
