A Wolverine Variant in the MCU Was Confirmed Nearly 2 Years Ago in a Popular Disney+ Show
“Deadpool & Wolverine” is the latest MCU installment, currently smashing box office records—a testament to its long-term significance. Kevin Feige hinted that this movie marks the beginning of the mutant era, and based on what we’ve seen, it’s hard to disagree.
While mutants have been hinted at in the MCU before, with several appearing on screen, “Deadpool & Wolverine” is the first film to directly acknowledge the existence of the X-Men and mutants as we know them. It also brings one of the most iconic mutants and X-Men members into the MCU—or does it?
One of the movie’s biggest draws was the introduction of Jackman’s Wolverine to the MCU. However, a Wolverine variant had already been teased in the MCU two years before the film’s release.
This early reference to Wolverine appeared in “She-Hulk: Attorney at Law.” In the episode “Superhuman Law,” Jennifer Walters is job hunting on a blog site when she spots a headline about a recent bar brawl involving a man with metal claws.
During the end credits of the episode “Mean, Green, and Straight Poured into These Jeans,” artwork features Augustus Pugliese showing his sneaker collection to Nikki Ramos, with a depiction of the classic Wolverine suit included.
This suggests that the Wolverine variant may have been in the MCU all along, just unacknowledged. While it’s unclear if Deadpool encountered that variant during his search for THE Wolverine, many fans are speculating that Cavill could ultimately be revealed as the Wolverine of Earth-616.
