Alan Cumming Shares Nightcrawler Comeback Joy for ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ in Fun Video

Alan Cumming has us all excited with his latest Instagram video. The Scottish actor, known for his vibrant personality, is stepping back into the blue skin of Nightcrawler for Marvel’s upcoming blockbuster ‘Avengers: Doomsday’. Dressed in a festive Christmas hat and a cozy scarf, he’s hopping around what looks like his own home, showing off some playful energy that’s got everyone talking.

The big news dropped recently when Marvel confirmed Cumming would return as the teleporting mutant he first played over 20 years ago in ‘X2: X-Men United’. That 2003 film gave us a Nightcrawler who stole the show with his quick moves and gentle charm, even if he only got one shot at the role back then. Now, he’s joining a massive lineup for ‘Avengers: Doomsday’, set to hit theaters on May 1, 2026, and I can’t wait to see him in action again.

In the video, Cumming flashes a grin and captions it with a simple ‘Never Say Never!’ It’s a fun nod to how he once swore off the role because of the long hours in the makeup chair—four hours a day, he said, was no picnic. But here he is, ready to bamf back into the Marvel universe, and we’re thrilled he changed his mind.

‘Avengers: Doomsday’ is shaping up to be a wild ride. Directed by the Russo Brothers, who gave us ‘Avengers: Infinity War’ and ‘Endgame’, the movie promises a huge clash of heroes and mutants. Cumming won’t be alone—Patrick Stewart is back as Professor X, Ian McKellen returns as Magneto, and Rebecca Romijn will slip into Mystique’s scales again. James Marsden’s Cyclops and Kelsey Grammer’s Beast are also on board, making this a proper X-Men reunion alongside the Avengers crew like Chris Hemsworth and Anthony Mackie. Oh, and Channing Tatum’s Gambit from ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ is joining the party too. You can check out all the confirmed actors and characters here.

Cumming’s return feels extra special because Nightcrawler’s been a fan favorite since that iconic White House fight scene in ‘X2’. His mix of agility, faith, and kindness made him stand out, even if he didn’t get much screen time after that. A younger version popped up in ‘X-Men: Apocalypse’ and ‘Dark Phoenix’, played by Kodi Smit-McPhee, but it’s Cumming’s take we’ve been missing.

What’s got me curious is how they’ll handle his look this time. Back in the day, the makeup was a grind, but with today’s tech, maybe they’ll go full CGI or motion capture to ease him into those acrobatic stunts. Either way, seeing him leap around his house in that video tells me he’s still got the spirit for it.

This isn’t just a random gig for Cumming either. He’s been killing it lately as the host of ‘The Traitors’ on Peacock, a reality show that’s earned him an Emmy and a huge following. Filmed at Ardross Castle in Scotland, it’s a murder-mystery game that’s got viewers hooked, and Cumming’s dramatic flair fits it perfectly. With that kind of star power, Marvel must’ve made him a sweet deal to pull him back into the superhero world.

‘Avengers: Doomsday’ is already in production, and the buzz is real. Robert Downey Jr. is flipping the script by playing Doctor Doom instead of Iron Man, which adds a whole new layer to this epic. With the X-Men and Avengers teaming up—or maybe facing off—I’m betting we’re in for something huge. Cumming’s little holiday dance just makes it all feel more personal, like he’s inviting us along for the ride.

So, mark your calendars for May 2026. Alan Cumming’s Nightcrawler is back, and he’s bringing some festive vibes to the fight. ‘Never Say Never’ might just be the motto we need to get through the wait!
