Are ‘Garage Sale Mystery’ movies connected?
All Garage Sale Mystery movies are connected in terms of revolving around the same lead group of characters. However, each movie resolves its own mystery, with only minor references made to previous movies or relationships between the characters from said movies.
To explain simply, the connectivity between the episodes is similar to Agatha Christie’s Poirot series starring David Suchet. Virtually every episode has its own plot and is connected to the other only through character development of the lead roles.
What is the best way to watch ‘Garage Sale Mystery’ movies?
The best way to watch Garage Sale Mystery movies is in the same order that they came out. ‘Garage Sale Mystery’ movies in order (by release date)
1. Garage Sale Mystery (September 14, 2013)
Jennifer Shannon owns an antique store and loves to visit garage sales to find unique antique items to resell at her shop or some useful stuff for her husband and son to repair and revive. Her keen eye helps her instinctively solve problems, so when a string of burglaries hits their little town, Jenn works with a detective on a theory that they are related to local garage sales.
Things go south when Jenn sets up a lunch date with her friend Kate but instead finds her dead in her home. The police suggest an accidental death, but Jenn believes the burglaries are somehow connected to Kate’s death. Will she be able to solve the case?
2. Garage Sale Mystery: All that Glitters (October 26, 2014)
Jennifer buys a storage unit full of awesome items for her store at an auction. The auctioneer, however – who Jenn overheard talking about a divorce and to a disgruntled buyer – turns up dead only hours later. Jenn and her business partner, Danielle, help with the investigation, but there’s a big break-in into their store.
With their safety in jeopardy, they go through their boxes, only to find the evidence they need to catch the murderer.
3. Garage Sale Mystery: The Deadly Room (April 28, 2015)
A multi-million dollar mansion is alleged to be cursed, so a real estate agent decides to sleep through a night in the house to prove that it isn’t haunted at all. However, the night ends with the woman found dead in the mansion.
That woman is Jenn’s good friend, and although the police found no evidence of foul play, Jennifer doesn’t give up. She starts researching the house’s history and finds some intriguing clues and details – but yet again, she puts herself in danger by doing so.
4. Garage Sale Mystery: The Wedding Dress (August 9, 2015)
While buying stuff from garage sales or storage auctions, Jennifer tends to find items with a keen, mysterious past. One day, she finds a wedding dress with a dark history of a missing groom. It captivates Jenn, so she puts her instincts and detective skills to work to try and solve the mystery behind the missing groom.
5. Garage Sale Mystery: Guilty Until Proven Innocent (January 3, 2016)
A murder occurs, and Jenn’s old college friend, Sandra, is the prime suspect. The thing is, Sandra just visited Jenn’s shop recently, selling all of her antiques for no money upfront – but for 20% of the item sales.
When Sandra’s former finance turns up dead, she becomes the prime suspect, and Jennifer is determined to prove her innocence. When a widow comes to Jenn’s store to sell her late husband’s antiques, things slowly start falling into place as the mystery gets resolved.
6. Garage Sale Mystery: The Novel Murders (June 4, 2016)
The most intriguing mystery to date, Jennifer figures out that clues from a murder scene are exactly the same as the ones from an Agatha Christie novel. Another murder happens, this time with clues from an A.C. Doyle novel about Sherlock Holmes, and then, a third murder, loosely following The Circular Staircase by Mary Roberts Rinehart. Will Jenn be able to solve the mysteries?
7. Garage Sale Mystery: The Art of Murder (January 8, 2017)
Jennifer is setting up a garage sale for charity, but before she can put it together, she finds a dead body in an attic of a nearby home, full of interesting artwork. Jenn is already experienced in solving these kinds of cases, especially revolving around antiques, so she immediately spots some interesting clues. Will she find the killer?
8. Garage Sale Mystery: The Beach Murder (August 11, 2017)
A surfing and swimming enthusiast is dead and washed ashore on a beach. His widow contacts Jenn to help her find the culprit, claiming there is no way that her husband simply drowned as reports suggest, and states there had to be foul play involved.
9. Garage Sale Mystery: Murder by Text (August 13, 2017)
A bass player’s career is looking up, as she is about to go on a tour with a famous country singer. However, she is found dead at her home – a victim of an alleged suicide. Jenn thinks there’s something fishy about the whole deal, though. Is it someone from her band, or perhaps an estranged husband, who reappeared right before the player’s death?
Meanwhile, an interesting dynamic starts happening in Jenn’s home as well. As an architect, her husband is looking to tear down an old building to build a new one, but his daughter and several other young friends are adamant about defending it from demolition. How will the two storylines end? Will Jenn find a solution to both?
10. Garage Sale Mystery: Murder Most Medieval (August 20, 2017)
My favorite entry in the Garage Sale Mystery series (I’m a sucker for the Middle Ages), Jen finds a cool antique suit of armor and buys it for the store. In it, however, she finds a corpse of a college history professor. Soon after, his assistant falls victim to yet another murder.
Seeing that Jenn now has the armor, is she indirectly caught in an intricate mystery that puts her in the crosshairs of the murderer? Will she solve the mystery before the macabre killer catches her as well?
11. Garage Sale Mystery: A Case of Murder (August 27, 2017)
This one has the most horror-ish vibes out of all the episodes. Jenn finds an old, beautiful, antique reel-to-reel recorder at a garage sale. As she checks out if it works properly by listening to the tapes that she got with it, Jenn realizes that the tapes include a recording of a man pleading and begging for his life right before being killed.
She finds out that Dr. Vedders was the owner of the recorder – and he was stabbed to death. He had issues with his wife but also worked as a psychologist with a group of patients, only to be found dead the day he retired. With Jenn’s life now in danger, she works with a detective to finally put the doctor to rest and find his murderer.
12. Garage Sale Mystery: The Pandora’s Box Murders (August 5, 2018)
A daughter-in-law hires Jenn to help her solve a cool puzzle box that belonged to a real estate family – the Andronicuses. However, the box soon goes missing, and members of the Andronicus family start dying, one by one, right after the box disappears. As many people had issues with the family in town, the list of suspects was as big as Jenn had ever seen.
13. Garage Sale Mystery: The Mask Murder (August 12, 2018)
Jenn is at a storage auction and buys a nice-looking locker. However, she gets more than she had bargained for, as there’s a body inside the locker, along with a mask of the deceased woman’s face – an identical mask. Jenn struggles to solve the mystery with Danielle as the rest of her family builds homes for the homeless.
14. Garage Sale Mystery: Picture a Murder (August 19, 2018)
A wealthy photography enthusiast was found dead in an alleged accident. Jenn buys his antique camera at an auction and develops the photos that remain inside. What she sees in one of the frames has her blown away – the death is almost certainly not accidental.
15. Garage Sale Mystery: Murder in D Minor (August 26, 2018)
Jenn buys a vintage, amazing Welte-Mignon piano player at a local estate auction. However, her purchase leads her down a series of clues that unmasks the previous owner – an allergen philanthropist – and proves they had lived a not-so-charitable life before getting murdered.
16. Garage Sale Mysteries: Searched & Seized (May 8, 2020)
The last entry of the entire saga had Jenn visit a police auction run by her good friend Miles. The auction had items that were seized at a money counterfeiting scheme. Soon after, Miles dies, and Jennifer thinks the two are somehow related. After all, Miles had a debt problem, so perhaps he got involved with the wrong crowd…
Where to watch ‘Garage Sale Mystery’ movies?
Garage Sale Mystery movies are Hallmark Movies & Mysteries originals, so if you can access Hallmark, you can find the movies there. The series is also available on Amazon Prime Video, Philo, and Roku TV, while you can also buy or rent it on Apple TV, Google Play, YouTube TV, and VUDU.
Will there be more ‘Garage Sale Mystery’ movies?
Unfortunately, there will be no more Garage Sale Mystery movies – at least not in the same lineup with Lori Loughlin and Hallmark. There was actually a 17th movie, titled Three Little Murders, already in deep production, with about a week left of filming, as confirmed by Kraig Wenman on Twitter – one of the writers and producers of the series.
However, in March 2019 – before the 16th film, Searched & Seized, aired – Hallmark Channel fired Lori Loughlin and cut all ties with the actress due to her involvement and indictment in the 2019 scandal revolving around college admissions bribery.
Loughlin, her husband, and dozens of other influential parents bribed college entrance exam administrators with up to $6 million to allow cheating on the exams, to get their children into elite colleges such as Yale, Georgetown, etc.
The 16th film was already finished, so it eventually aired about a year later, on May 8, 2020, but the 17th film was almost wrapped up and never saw the light of day. Who knows, though? Perhaps one day, Hallmark decides to finish the project altogether. Seeing that Lori is now an active actress again, perhaps there’s hope for another Garage Sale Mystery.
