Amanda Seyfried Slaps Marvel, DC & Other Movie Sequels: “It’s Just for Money”

Amanda Seyfried and Rachel Brosnahan recently had a chat for Interview magazine, and they got real about Hollywood’s obsession with sequels. Seyfried didn’t hold back, even though she admitted she’s been part of it herself, starring in movies like Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again and Ted 2.

She also said she’s still trying to get a Jennifer’s Body sequel made with Megan Fox.

During their conversation, Brosnahan brought up how packed this summer is with big franchise movies. She’s starring as Lois Lane in James Gunn’s new Superman, which hits theaters in July. At the same time, new Jurassic Park and Fantastic Four films are also coming out.

“We have Jurassic Park, Superman and Fantastic Four,” Brosnahan said. “What’s our Barbenheimer between Fantastic Four, Jurassic Park, and Superman? The people need you. Supertastic Park?”

Seyfried laughed and replied, “It’s Fantastic Super-park. It’s Four Superparks. Four Dinosaurs. Four Super Dinosaurs. I don’t know!”

She then got more serious about how tired people are getting of sequels. “I will say, there’s a little bit of fatigue with sequels,” she said. “I want original content. I think it’s really scary and brave to do it. It’s not scary and not very brave to do sequels. It’s just for money and it’s frustrating. Then again, I’d do Mamma Mia 3 in a heartbeat.”

Brosnahan also said she would love to return for another Superman movie. “Yeah, I’d come back. We had a great time,” she said. “There’s also so many people in this cast who I didn’t get to work with.”

She added that she doesn’t understand actors who do superhero films but then complain about them later. “I don’t know why people say yes only to then turn around and complain about it,” she said. “Look, I don’t want to shit on other actors, but there was a minute where it was cool to not like superhero movies and to look back on projects like this and pooh-pooh them. Do it or don’t do it, and then stand by it.”

Seyfried told Variety not long ago that she’s serious about doing a Jennifer’s Body sequel. But she made it clear that she won’t do it without Megan Fox. She’s also returning to voice her character in a new Ted animated show that’s being made for Peacock.

Amanda Seyfried has a few new movies on the way. The Housemaid. She plays a character named Nina. The movie is not finished yet, but it’s in post-production, which means they’re editing it and getting it ready to be released. Amanda is also one of the producers of this movie, so she helped make it happen behind the scenes too.

Another movie is called Ann Lee. Amanda plays the lead role, also named Ann Lee. This one is also in post-production, so it’s being edited now and should come out soon.

She’s also working on a movie called The Life and Deaths of Wilson Shedd. It’s still being filmed, so they’re currently shooting the scenes. All three projects are still in the works and haven’t been released yet.
