James Gunn Responds to SnyderVerse Boycott Plans as ‘Superman’ Faces Review Bomb Threats

James Gunn isn’t worried about a small group of SnyderVerse fans trying to ruin the launch of his upcoming Superman movie. He recently responded on Threads to an online post that went viral on Reddit, where some users were pushing others to review bomb the film, leak spoilers, and reserve tickets they don’t plan to use—all in an effort to hurt the movie’s performance.
The original post came from the r/SnyderCut subreddit, but it was quickly taken down by the moderators. Gunn saw the post and didn’t seem fazed. “lol I think we’ll survive,” he wrote. “I’m not sure the eight people that listen to that guy… are going to impact the course of events.”
This drama started because some fans are still upset about the new direction of the DC Universe. After Warner Bros. decided to move away from Zack Snyder’s version of the DCU, Gunn stepped in to reboot the franchise.
Some Snyder supporters aren’t happy about that and want to show their frustration.
The first box office projections for Superman look good so far.
According to BoxOfficeTheory, the movie could make between $140 million and $185 million during its opening weekend in the U.S. The wide range is because early Amazon screenings on July 8 affected how general ticket sales looked when they opened the next day. The early screenings did very well, but they made the regular sales look slower at first.
Still, there are four more weeks to promote the film and attract more viewers. For now, the outlook is strong.
The movie stars David Corenswet as Superman, with Rachel Brosnahan playing Lois Lane and Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor. The cast also includes Edi Gathegi, Isabela Merced, Anthony Carrigan, Nathan Fillion, and Milly Alcock. This will be the first film in the new DCU lineup from DC Studios.
Superman is set to hit theaters worldwide on July 11, 2025, from Warner Bros. Pictures.
