Amy Pascal Gives an Update on Potential Tom Hardy’s Venom and Tom Holland’s Spider-Man Crossover

Few unresolved threads in modern superhero cinema have lingered as long as the question of whether Tom Holland’s Spider-Man and Tom Hardy’s Venom will ever actually share the screen. Fans have spent years piecing together clues from post-credit scenes, actor interviews, and studio hints, only to watch the moment slip away each time it seemed within reach.

That near-miss history traces back to 2021, when ‘Venom: Let There Be Carnage’ ended with Eddie Brock teleported directly into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, seemingly setting the stage for exactly this crossover. Instead, ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ sent Hardy’s Venom right back to his own universe just as quickly, leaving only a small trace of the symbiote behind in the MCU.

With Hardy having since wrapped up his run as Venom in 2024’s ‘Venom: The Last Dance,’ the door on that crossover seemed to be closing for good. Now, while promoting ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day,’ producer Amy Pascal has reignited fan hopes, telling Josh Horowitz on the “Happy Sad Confused” podcast, “It would be great, let’s put it that way,” when asked how close Marvel and Sony had actually come to making it happen.

That answer alone might have felt like a polite deflection, but the conversation didn’t stop there. When Horowitz pressed further on whether real hope still existed for the two characters to finally meet, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige jumped in with a simple but pointed response: “Always have hope.” Pascal echoed the sentiment immediately after, adding, “I have hope. We have hope.”

Neither producer confirmed that a crossover is actively in development, but the exchange made clear that the idea remains very much alive behind the scenes. For a concept that has been dangled in front of fans since 2021 without resolution, even this small acknowledgment carries weight.

Pascal did offer one piece of concrete news during the conversation, confirming that an animated Venom film remains in active development at Sony Pictures Animation. The project is reportedly being helmed by Zach Lipovsky and Adam B. Stein, the directing duo behind ‘Final Destination Bloodlines.’

While that animated project wouldn’t necessarily deliver the live-action crossover fans have been waiting for, its continued momentum suggests Sony still sees plenty of life left in the Venom character even without Hardy attached to a new live-action installment.

Pascal and Feige’s comments echo sentiments Hardy himself expressed well before stepping away from the role. Speaking on The Discourse Podcast in 2025, Hardy admitted the crossover had come agonizingly close to happening at one point. “We got as close as I could possibly imagine getting, apart from doing a film together, which I would have loved to have done because that just means so much fun,” he said, framing his interest in the team-up as something he wanted largely “for the kids.”

That kind of candid admission from Hardy adds extra weight to Pascal and Feige’s more recent comments, suggesting that all parties involved have genuinely wanted this crossover to materialize, even as scheduling, franchise timing, and creative direction repeatedly got in the way.

Interestingly, Holland and Hardy have technically shared a project together before, just not in the way fans are hoping for. The two appeared in 2013’s ‘Locke,’ where Holland voiced Hardy’s son in an entirely voice-only role, a small but notable connection between the two actors long before either became attached to their respective superhero franchises.

With Hardy’s live-action run as Venom now finished and Holland continuing forward in his own corner of the Spider-Man universe, any future crossover would likely require a completely new approach from Sony and Marvel. Whether that possibility ever becomes reality remains uncertain, but for now, the door hasn’t been closed.
