Anthony Mackie to Drag Tom Holland to ‘Captain America 4’ Premiere Over Long-Standing ‘Beef’: “Zendaya come with your friend or something”
Tom Holland’s Spider-Man and Anthony Mackie’s Falcon first crossed paths in ‘Captain America: Civil War’ in 2016. During press tours for the film, Mackie playfully teased Holland, calling him a diva and poking fun at his frequent breaks and need for supervision on set. This good-natured ribbing continued in interviews. Holland recalls an incident where he unintentionally used one of Mackie’s catchphrases on set, which might have sparked their ongoing playful rivalry.
Over the years, their banter has continued, with both actors taking jabs at each other. For example, at a Comic-Con interview in 2018, Mackie humorously admitted he hadn’t seen Holland’s film ‘Spider-Man: Homecoming,’ leading Holland to cheekily point out that Mackie didn’t have a character-centered project at the time. This brings us to the subject of our article.
It’s no secret that Mackie took Holland’s comment to heart and frequently references it. With his standalone movie set to release in about six months, Mackie is determined to make sure Holland knows he’ll be required to watch it.
At this year’s SDCC, Mackie told IGN that he plans to drag Holland to the premiere, even suggesting Zendaya might need to find a different date for the event. When asked by IGN what he is most excited about regarding the movie, Mackie responded:
“I’m excited for Tom Holland to see the movie. […] He’s my date to the premiere. Zendaya, whatever you need to do, come with your friend or something. But [Tom’s] coming with me. He’s gonna sit right there. He’s gonna watch the movie, and I’m gonna watch him watch the movie, and then I’m gonna get feedback. […] I’m gonna sit next to him, I wanna hear what he has to say.”
You can catch all of Mackie’s humorous remarks in the video:
This isn’t the first time Mackie has “threatened” Holland to ensure he watches the movie. A few months ago, the ‘Captain America: Brave New World’ star made a similar comment:
He did that on a very public stage, so I’m going to hold that till the premiere. I’m going to make sure that Marvel makes him come to the premiere, and then I’m going to sit him next to me, and I’m going to watch him watch the movie.
Although it may sound a bit harsh, Mackie delivered his remarks in a playful manner, and it’s important to note that the two are great friends in real life. Have any thoughts to share? Let us know in the comments below!
