Based on the popular League of Legends video game, Netflix’s Arcane has become a hit with both critics and fans, regardless of whether they’re actually fans of the game or not. The animated series’ first season was received with critical acclaim and became the first streaming series to win a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Animated Program and an Annie Award for Best General Audience Animated Television Broadcast Production.
Of course, with the series being such a major success, a second-season renewal was expected, but just as you thought that Netflix would fast-track a second season, they decided to slow it down, and the season finally arrived in November 2024, being split into three parts, the final ones releasing on November 23, 2024.
While the fans couldn’t wait for the second season, it was not without its controversies, and there was a lot of backlash surrounding the final episode and some controversial moments that took place, which is why series co-creator Christian Linke decided to respond to the backlash!
And while we won’t be spoiling anything major here, we are going to tell you that most of the backlash is related to the numerous character deaths that happened in the series.
We won’t be spoiling who died, but we are going to tell you that deaths were expected, but not in the way they happened, and not the characters that died.
A lot of fans were angry with such a turn of events, and fans being fans, they took to the Internet to voice their anger and disappointment, and believe us, there was a lot of anger and disappointment. Here are some examples:

But honestly though, what happened?

Like, what was the thought process to have the Ekko convincing Jinx to help, the most pivotal conversation in the finale, happen off-screen?
I would like to know the reason for why season 2 started the way it did. I understand that it works if you watch s1ep9 and then instantly after s2e1. But I personally kinda felt like the pace and structure in episode 1 was a bit disjointed and a bit rushed? Or is it just me

You are not a showrunner, you are a thief.

I mean it was definitely a choice to put Heimer and Jayce in the same room and for Heimer to not bring up or show any concern about what has happened to Jayce in the past few episodes, or even show concern for Viktor, the character moments definitely have taken a step down

But, as you can see, Christian Linke decided to respond to this, and when he was asked about the backlash, here is what he said:
I don’t know if there’s a world where these things satisfy everybody. Inconsequential to me is hard to wrap my head around. Every single big beat in the end with our characters, whether it’s a death or not, is a consequence of their choices. I want to listen and learn from them.
And in some cases I feel like there’s something to take away for what we do in the future. Sometimes I can disagree. But I try to really listen and to process. We kind of get everything: some people say there’s things that are too fast, too much, and rushed, and then I also get a lot of messages like, ‘Where is this character? Why didn’t you do more?
