‘Avengers: Doomsday’ Banners Are Already Flooding San Diego Streets and Fans Are Losing It

San Diego always transforms into a different city the moment Comic-Con season approaches, with banners, building wraps, and trolley designs slowly creeping into the Gaslamp Quarter. It is one of the clearest signals to locals and fans alike that the convention is near, even before a single panel has been scheduled or a single line has formed outside the convention center.

This year, that transformation has already started, and Marvel Studios is once again at the center of it. Following its tradition from recent years, Marvel Studios is sponsoring the Gaslamp Quarter banners again, this time with a subtle design built around ‘Avengers: Doomsday‘, featuring the Avengers logo bathed in green light, with even the official Comic-Con emblem getting an eerie green overlay.

The decorations were spotted and shared online days ahead of the event itself, with the San Diego Comic-Con account posting an early look at the banners going up around the city. The buzz makes sense, since there has been comparatively little promotion for ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ so far, despite the film featuring nearly every actor who has ever appeared in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

The timing could not be more deliberate. ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ is currently set for a December 18, 2026 theatrical release, putting it just months away from the convention, and uniting a massive roster of heroes against Doctor Doom, played by Robert Downey Jr. Downey’s casting itself became one of the most talked about moments in Marvel history when it was revealed at Comic-Con back in 2024.

That history is part of why this year’s return feels so significant. Marvel Studios sat out Hall H entirely in 2025, but TheWrap exclusively reported that the studio is heading back to its traditional Saturday night spotlight at San Diego Comic-Con 2026, alongside a major presence on the show floor and later at D23 in Anaheim. The panel is reportedly scheduled for July 25 inside Hall H.

Marvel has been building toward this moment for over a year now. The studio’s momentum has included a record breaking, hours long cast announcement livestream in 2025, followed by a string of individual teasers, alongside buzzy footage that debuted at CinemaCon earlier this year, complete with an early look at Downey’s Doctor Doom.

Fans on social media have already started reacting to the green banners, treating them as the unofficial starting gun for Doomsday season, even with the convention itself still weeks away. Given the timing, it’s expected that the Gaslamp banners may not be the only Marvel presence decorating the city, since recent years have often brought additional surprise designs tied to the studio’s slate.

For a franchise that has had a rocky stretch with recent releases, this level of visible, early momentum carries extra weight. This is widely viewed as a make or break year for Marvel, with both ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ and ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ needing to perform well, putting added pressure on Kevin Feige, Downey, and the Russo brothers to deliver a strong showing at the convention.

Whether this is just the beginning of a flood of Doomsday teasers or Marvel is saving its biggest reveals for the Hall H stage itself, the green takeover of San Diego has fans buzzing in anticipation. What do you think these banners hint at for Marvel’s Hall H presentation, and are you expecting a full trailer drop before ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ even hits theaters?
