‘Avengers: Doomsday’ Is Reportedly Jumping Across at Least 6 Universes and the Scale Is Staggering

The Multiverse Saga has been building toward something enormous since Doctor Strange first warned audiences about incursions, and with ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ now locked in for a December 18 release, the scope of what Marvel Studios is planning is coming into sharper focus with every new report. Directed by Anthony and Joe Russo and starring Robert Downey Jr. as the villainous Doctor Doom, the film is set to draw from a cast of over 30 announced actors, blending MCU mainstays with the returning cast of Fox’s X-Men films and the heroes of ‘The Fantastic Four: First Steps.’ That alone would make it one of the most ambitious crossover events in blockbuster history, but the latest reporting suggests the scale goes even further than that.

Disney’s official synopsis, published as part of its CinemaCon 2026 recap, confirmed in plain terms that heroes from three distinct universes will be set on a deadly collision course, facing an existential threat unlike anything they have encountered before. That language tracks with the mechanism Marvel introduced in ‘Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness,’ where incursions cause entire realities to crash into each other and destroy one or both worlds. According to Cosmic Circus insider Alex Perez, Doctor Doom sees these incursions as a danger to the multiverse and intends to stop them by leveraging a young Franklin Richards, positioning himself as the hero of his own story and willing to do whatever it takes to stay on top.

The full picture emerging from insiders, however, suggests the film reaches well beyond three universes. Reporting from The Cosmic Circus indicates that ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ will span at least six distinct realities, including Earth-616 as the main MCU timeline, Earth-828 tied to the Fantastic Four, the X-Men universe bringing characters from the Fox mutant films, Doctor Doom’s original universe, a hidden pocket dimension, and Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man universe. That is a breathtaking level of multiversal reach for a single film, and it raises serious questions about how the Russos plan to give each world meaningful weight without the story collapsing under its own scale.

Reports have indicated that Maguire would have more screen time than initially expected in the film, a surprising development given that he remains an officially unannounced cast member. One widely circulated leak claims the very first sequence of the film will depict an incursion on Earth-96283, Maguire’s Spider-Man’s home universe, with the web-slinger being portaled away at the last second. Competing accounts disagree on the finer details of that sequence, but the convergence of multiple independent reports suggests Maguire’s involvement is more than just wishful fan speculation.

The X-Men are shaping up to be among the most fascinating characters to watch, with Perez naming the mutant team as the heroes most likely to make morally questionable choices in the film, describing their decisions as “unbelievably dubious” while noting the circumstances leave them with little alternative. Confirmed X-Men names attached to the film include returning Fox cast members such as Patrick Stewart’s Professor X, Ian McKellen’s Magneto, Cyclops, Mystique, Nightcrawler, Beast, and Gambit, with Perez framing sacrifice and moral compromise as the central thematic engine running through both ‘Doomsday’ and its sequel ‘Avengers: Secret Wars.’

A CinemaCon trailer screened exclusively for attendees in April received widespread praise for how boldly it delivered on the film’s crossover ambitions, positioning Doom as a threat capable of withstanding the combined might of the Avengers, the Fantastic Four, and the X-Men simultaneously. With the full public trailer expected to arrive around San Diego Comic-Con in July, the anticipation is only going to intensify from here. Whether six universes proves to be the final count or just the beginning, it is safe to say ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ is shaping up to be unlike anything the genre has attempted before, and fans will want to weigh in on which of those six realities they are most excited to see finally collide on the big screen.
