‘Avengers: Doomsday’ Promo Pairs U.S. Agent With the Human Torch in a ‘Heroes Assemble’ Showdown
Marvel’s promotional rollout for ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ has become a steady stream of surprises. Rather than unveiling its massive ensemble all at once, the studio has been releasing artwork in waves, often pairing heroes who have never shared the screen before.
Those combinations have ranged from intriguing to downright unexpected. Earlier batches teased duos like Ant-Man and Invisible Woman, Shang-Chi and Cyclops, and Gambit and Yelena Belova, with each drop dissected by fans looking for story clues.
The newest pairing might be the oddest yet. Fresh promo art for ‘Avengers: Doomsday’, shared online on October 5, puts Wyatt Russell’s John Walker side by side with Joseph Quinn’s Johnny Storm, under a bold “Heroes Assemble” banner.
The artwork splits the 2 heroes into glowing side-by-side panels. Walker stands in a gold frame marked with the Avengers’ “A,” wearing a beret and a dark tactical uniform with red-and-white striped details, his shield at his back.
Johnny, meanwhile, bursts out of a blue panel bearing the Fantastic Four’s “4” logo. Wearing his blue suit with a jacket, he raises a fist as flames engulf the lower half of his body. The contrast feels intentional. One hero represents the grounded, gritty side of the MCU’s New Avengers, while the other brings the cosmic flair of Marvel’s First Family.

Walker first entered the MCU as a controversial successor to Captain America before returning in ‘Thunderbolts*’. In ‘Avengers: Doomsday’, he’s part of the New Avengers alongside Yelena Belova, Red Guardian, Ghost, Sentry, Winter Soldier, and Ant-Man.
The character has a complicated comics history, too. Walker debuted as U.S. Agent in ‘Captain America’ #354 in June 1989, after initially being introduced as the supervillain Super-Patriot and later taking over the Captain America role when Steve Rogers quit.
Johnny, on the other hand, hails from Earth-828, the reality introduced in ‘The Fantastic Four: First Steps’. Fan artist interpretations of leaked images suggested his look won’t change much from his previous appearance, essentially adding a jacket to his outfit from the end of that film along with a slightly longer hairstyle.
These pairings reflect the scale of the film’s story. ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ brings together heroes from the MCU, Earth-828 and Earth-10005, and the reality of Fox’s X-Men films to stand against Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom.
That means unlikely alliances are practically guaranteed. Seeing a hot-headed Human Torch alongside the brash U.S. Agent hints at the kind of personality clashes fans can expect when these worlds collide.

This latest image arrives amid a flood of new material. Another recent promo spotlighted Sue Storm, Black Panther, Mystique and Yelena Belova, while other artwork surfacing the same day showcased the Fantastic Four, the X-Men and the Avengers.
Fans have also noted how often the New Avengers appear in the marketing. Walker’s continued presence suggests the ‘Thunderbolts*’ crew will play a meaningful role, and he’s also expected to appear in ‘Avengers: Secret Wars’.
With ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ arriving on December 18, there’s still plenty of time for Marvel to reveal more unexpected team-ups. For now, U.S. Agent and the Human Torch make for one of the most entertaining duos of the campaign so far.
