‘Avengers: Doomsday’ Shatters Disney’s Presale Record in Germany, Beating ‘Endgame’
Marvel has spent months building toward ‘Avengers: Doomsday’, and the hype is translating into real numbers. The Russo brothers’ return to the franchise reunites Avengers, Fantastic Four and X-Men characters for the first time, with Robert Downey Jr. stepping into the role of Victor von Doom in a film reportedly running 165 minutes.
Disney has been unusually aggressive with ticket sales. Premium-format tickets went on sale in the U.S. on July 20, earning $16.5 million on their first day across roughly 1,000 theaters, about double the first-day presale total of ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’. Notably, that came without IMAX, since ‘Dune: Part Three’ holds the format exclusively for 3 weeks.
The momentum has been just as strong overseas. As MCU Film News highlighted, ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ sold 118,000 tickets in its first 24 hours in Germany, beating ‘Avengers: Endgame’, which sold 105,000 in the same window.
Disney confirmed the figure marks the best presale launch in the history of The Walt Disney Company Germany. Presales opened on October 5, more than 2 months ahead of the film’s German release on December 16.

The comparison is especially striking given the timing. ‘Endgame’ set its record back in 2019 with presales that began roughly 3 weeks before release, while ‘Doomsday’ achieved its total with months still to go.

The demand created headaches for moviegoers. German fans took to Reddit and TikTok to describe a frustrating booking process, with many struggling to secure seats as theaters were flooded with buyers.

One fan said it took 45 minutes to snag tickets and described never having seen anything like it in Germany before. Others shared stories of sold-out showings and websites struggling to keep up.
Germany isn’t the only market showing impressive numbers. Reports indicate ‘Doomsday’ is outpacing the first days of ‘Endgame’ ticket sales in multiple European countries, including Spain.

Global tracking has been equally encouraging. Global Box Office reported on October 6 that the film had crossed $100 million in worldwide presales, after becoming the fastest film ever to pass $1 million in pre-release sales in both Brazil and the U.K.
The total has since reportedly climbed past $125 million. For context, ‘Endgame’ had an estimated $140 million in presales, a mark ‘Doomsday’ now appears to be chasing with weeks still remaining.
Analysts have urged some restraint when comparing these numbers. No major blockbuster has opened presales this early, and sales are naturally front-loaded when a film is available for months rather than weeks.

That means early totals may not perfectly predict final box office results. Domestically, ‘Doomsday’ has trailed both ‘Endgame’ and record-holder ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ in total advance sales, though TheWrap reported it was running about 65% ahead of ‘Brand New Day’ after 2 days.
Even with those caveats, the German record is a strong sign of enthusiasm for Marvel’s next team-up event. For a studio that has faced uneven releases in recent years, these presale milestones are exactly the kind of headlines it was hoping for.

‘Avengers: Doomsday’ opens in Germany on December 16 and arrives in U.S. theaters on December 18. If the presale frenzy is any indication, it could be one of the biggest openings of the year.
Do you think Avengers: Doomsday can surpass Avengers: Endgame at the global box office?
