‘Avengers: Endgame’ Tickets Are About to Go On Sale for Its Big Theatrical Return

Marvel Studios has spent the past several months building an elaborate rollout for its biggest release of the year, and that campaign is about to take its next major step. Rather than simply announcing showtimes closer to release, Disney has been treating this re-release with the same kind of extended, carefully staged marketing typically reserved for brand-new blockbusters.

That extended rollout continues this week, with presales for ‘Avengers: Endgame’s’ theatrical return set to open this coming Monday. The re-release, officially retitled ‘Avengers: Endgame Encore,’ hits theaters on September 25, and moviegoers will soon be able to secure their seats, including select IMAX showtimes in select cities as well as other premium large-format screenings across select theaters.

That premium format availability ties directly into Disney’s broader strategy for the re-release. The Encore edition also marks the official launch of Infinity Vision, Disney’s newly created premium theatrical certification designed to compete directly with IMAX and other large-format brands, giving the studio its own branded option for showcasing its biggest films.

Unlike a standard theatrical rerelease, ‘Endgame Encore’ isn’t just the same 2019 cut being dusted off for another run. The new version includes a custom introduction, additional footage woven into the film itself, and a special post-credits end tag designed to connect directly to December’s ‘Avengers: Doomsday.’

That connective tissue makes the re-release feel less like pure nostalgia and more like an active piece of Marvel’s ongoing marketing push toward its next major crossover event. Audiences seeing the film in standard theaters will still get the new introduction and additional footage, but the exclusive end tag will only be available in Infinity Vision and IMAX presentations specifically.

The timing here is no accident either. With ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ set to premiere December 18, positioning ‘Endgame Encore’ roughly twelve weeks earlier gives Marvel a built-in opportunity to reignite interest in the franchise’s Infinity Saga conclusion right before pivoting audiences toward what comes next.

That strategy mirrors how the studio previously handled a limited 2019 rerelease of ‘Endgame’ that included bonus footage, an effort that briefly pushed the film past ‘Avatar’ at the global box office before Cameron’s film eventually reclaimed the record through subsequent releases. Given that ‘Endgame’ currently sits at approximately $2.8 billion worldwide, trailing ‘Avatar’s’ $2.92 billion by a relatively narrow margin, this new re-release gives Marvel another shot at closing that gap.

Selling tickets this far in advance has become an increasingly common marketing tactic for major studio releases. Universal previously generated significant buzz by putting select IMAX tickets for ‘The Odyssey’ on sale a full year ahead of that film’s release, and Disney appears to be leaning into a similar strategy here, though on a considerably shorter timeline.

With Infinity Vision certification still expanding across theaters, and Disney having reportedly received thousands of applications from exhibitors hoping to qualify for the new format, this Monday’s presale launch also serves as an early test of just how much demand exists for the studio’s new premium theatrical brand.

For longtime fans who’ve already seen ‘Endgame’ dozens of times, the addition of new footage and an exclusive connection to ‘Doomsday’ gives this rerelease a genuine reason to return to theaters beyond simple nostalgia. With presales opening this Monday, those hoping to catch the film in a premium format should expect competition for the best available showtimes, especially in cities offering IMAX or newly certified Infinity Vision screens.
