‘Barbie’: Shang Chi’s Simu Liu joins Greta Gerwig’s Warner Bros Film
Simu Liu, best known for starring in Marvel’s Shang Chi and the Ten Rings (2021) is in talks to star in Greta Gerwig’s next film, Barbie. Most of the details about the movie including the plot and character information are being withheld by the studio.
Barbie has already cast Margot Robbie, Ryan Gosling, and America Ferrera.
The script for the movie was written by Gerwig and Noah Baumbach. Gerwig will be directing the film. For LuckyChap Entertainment, Robbie and Tom Ackerley will be producing alongside Robbie Brenner for Mattel Films and David Heyman. Josey MacNamara for LuckyChap and Ynon Kreiz for Mattel will be executive producing.
Greta Gerwig is best known for directing the Academy Award-winning film Little Women (2019) starring Sarsoise Ronan and Timothee Chalamet. Margot Robbie is best known for starring in hits such as The Wolf of Wallstreet (2013) alongside Leonardo DiCaprio, The Suicide Squad (2021), and Harley Quinn and the Birds of Prey (2020).
Ryan Gosling is known for starring in movies such as The Notebook (2004), La la Land (2016), and Blade Runner 2049 (2017). America Ferrera is known for the How to Train your Dragon movies, Ugly Betty, and Superstore among others.
Simu Liu is known for starring in CBC’s popular comedy show Kim’s Convenience. More recently, he has become a worldwide star after starring in Marvel’s Shang Chi and the Ten Rings as titular character Shang Chi. Shang Chi is the first Marvel movie to have a predominantly Asian-American cast. It is nominated for an Oscar this year for Best Visual Effects alongside Marvel’s Spiderman: No Way Home.
