“The Batman Part II” is currently deep in development. Although the film has been delayed by nearly a year, we continue to receive regular updates.

Robert Pattinson is set to return as Bruce Wayne, with Zoë Kravitz reprising her role as Selina Kyle, also known as Catwoman. Andy Serkis will once again play Alfred Pennyworth, Bruce Wayne’s loyal butler and confidant, while Colin Farrell returns as the Penguin, adding depth to this new chapter of the Batman universe. While most of the cast was confirmed months ago, one role remains uncertain: Barry Keoghan’s Joker.

Keoghan appeared as an “Unseen Arkham Prisoner” in “The Batman” (2022). Director Matt Reeves later confirmed that this character was indeed the Joker. A deleted scene featuring Keoghan’s Joker interacting with Robert Pattinson’s Batman was released by Warner Bros. on March 24, 2022, three weeks after the film’s premiere, and it was well-received by fans.

Over a year ago, Collider reported that Keoghan would reprise his role as the Joker in the upcoming sequel, though no official confirmation from the studio followed. Recently, Variety also asked Keoghan about his involvement in the film. While he did not explicitly confirm his return, he also did not deny it. Fans are speculating that Keoghan’s Joker may have a minor role in “The Batman Part II” but could play a much larger part in “The Batman III,” if that installment is made.

“There we go!” I can’t say much. The camera is looking right at me. We’ll see where that goes. Again, it was an incredible experience … and yeah, I can’t say.

This isn’t the first time the actor has hinted at his return. Over six months ago, he gave a similar response to Vanity Fair, neither confirming nor denying the rumors. However, given the secrecy surrounding his role, it’s likely he will make a return, possibly even as a cameo.

Keoghan has expressed that it would be exciting to revisit the Batman universe.

I can’t really say anything about that, my man, but it would be exciting, wouldn’t it? To see The Joker come to life again.”

“The Batman – Part II” is set to release on October 2, 2026. Director Matt Reeves has recently hinted at multiple “main villains” for the sequel, sparking fan speculation that the Court of Owls might make their on-screen debut.
