Just weeks before the premiere of X-Men ’97, it was revealed that Beau DeMayo, the show’s creator, had been abruptly fired by the company, with his email deactivated without prior notice. Both the studio and his representatives have remained silent on the reasons for his dismissal. At the time, DeMayo deleted his social media accounts and refrained from commenting on the situation.

Despite handling the firing with apparent grace, DeMayo recently broke his silence. He pointed out that Disney has not reached out to him regarding his Emmy nomination, despite his significant role in producing and writing the show, which he claims was largely his own effort.

If you’re wondering how wrongful death ties into this, brace yourself for a shocking move by Disney.

Jeffrey Piccolo is suing Walt Disney Parks and Resorts for the wrongful death of his wife, Kanokporn Tangsuan, who suffered a fatal allergic reaction after dining at Raglan Road Irish Pub in Disney Springs. In response, Disney is trying to have the lawsuit dismissed and moved to arbitration, arguing that Piccolo agreed to arbitration by signing up for a Disney+ trial in 2019.

Disney’s legal team also claims that Piccolo’s purchase of Epcot Center tickets via their website shields them from the lawsuit. Piccolo’s lawyer called Disney’s argument “preposterous,” asserting that it’s unfair to deny a jury trial based on a Disney+ subscription. Disney countered by stating that the restaurant isn’t owned or operated by them, and they’re merely defending against being included in the lawsuit. Piccolo is seeking damages under Florida’s Wrongful Death Act for mental pain, loss of companionship, and other expenses.

To clarify Disney’s court argument: they claimed that because Piccolo was a Disney+ subscriber, he agreed to Disney’s Terms of Service, which mandates third-party arbitration and excludes lawsuits, particularly jury trials that often favor individuals over corporations.

Amid this controversy, Beau DeMayo seized the moment to take a jab at his former employer, with many fans joining in the criticism.
