Rumors: ‘X-Men ‘97’ Creator Beau Demayo Fired for Being Allegedly Difficult To Work With

Recently, it came to light that Beau DeMayo, the mind behind ‘X-Men ’97,’ was unexpectedly dismissed, finding his company email access revoked without forewarning. The studio has maintained silence on the motives behind the termination, and DeMayo’s representatives have equally withheld comments. Following this development, DeMayo erased his presence from social media platforms and has yet to address the sudden turn of events that occurred merely a week before the much-awaited debut of the animated series.
Up until this point, DeMayo’s career trajectory seemed on an upward climb, with a second season of the show greenlit before the first had even aired, and plans for a third season underway. Additionally, the studio appeared to have earmarked him for involvement in several future projects.
However, as of yesterday, speculation began to circulate that despite DeMayo’s apparent success and favor within the studio, there were underlying issues with ‘X-Men ’97’ and his vision for a ‘Blade’ narrative, though these were not cited as reasons for his dismissal. On the Hot Mic podcast, industry insiders John Rocha and Jeff Sneider suggested that DeMayo’s dismissal stemmed from his challenging nature and other problematic behaviors, which ultimately culminated in his firing. Sneider chose to withhold further details, teasing a forthcoming newsletter. Rocha pointed out that DeMayo’s ownership of an OnlyFans account added to the controversy, despite it being used non-sexually to showcase his work on projects.
If the claims about DeMayo being abusive are true, it raises concerns about Disney and Marvel Studios’ ability to judge their stars’ characters. It seems like every few months a new scandal emerges, with notable figures like Johnny Depp (who was later proven innocent), James Gunn, Josh Brolin, and Jeremy Renner facing rumors and speculations of potential abuse. The most recent and impactful case, especially in the MCU context, is Jonathan Majors, who was fired after being proven guilty of assault, causing Marvel Studios to reconsider their plans for Phase 5.
