Benedict Cumberbatch Comments The Massive Success of Spider-Man: No Way Home

Share:

It’s been more than a month since Spider-Man: No Way Home was released and it would be a huge understatement to say that movie was just successful. The third Spider-Man movie set in the MCU and the ninth Spider-Man movie overall (if we include the animated movie Into The Spider-Verse) grossed $1.694 billion worldwide, and it received acclaim from fans for its fan service.

The movie featured many known names and faces (that’s an understatement too), and one of them was also Benedict Cumberbatch’s Doctor Strange. We admit, although his role was not as huge as we expected, Cumberbatch once again showed he’s the Doctor Strange.

Spider-Man: No Way Home opened the doors to the upcoming movie Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, in which Cumberbatch’s titular will encounter numerous threats across the entire Multiverse. Directed by Sam Raimi, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is promising to be an epic wild ride throughout the Multiverse.

While we’re waiting for the next Doctor Strange movie, Cumberbatch now finally addressed No Way Home’s amazing result:

“I’m very spoiled because Tom Holland and I had petitioned that the neighborhood superheroes should cross paths again. To have those three films culminate in that moment was extraordinary to be a part of. And to let my character make some hefty mistakes out of love — really, out of generosity towards someone he realizes he really cares for. From a stand-alone success of a movie, of a franchise, it’s phenomenal. I genuinely sat there entertained, thrilled, really moved. I laughed a lot. I cheered. It’s a fantastic feeling to be back in a cinema, being able to do that and to prove that not everything has to be streamed. And I think that’s important moving forward. It’s not just for exhibitors but for the social gain, the excitement of being in a crowd of people experiencing that live thing of watching it.” — Benedict Cumberbatch for Variety

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness will hit theaters on May 6, 2021.
