Since Shazam! Fury of the Gods has been recently delayed from December 2022 to March 2023, Black Adam is now the only DC movie left to be released by the end of this year. Ahead of its release in October, the DC movie starring Dwayne Johnson in the titular role now received its newest official trailer, which you can check down below:

Dwayne Johnson was first announced to play a DC character Black Adam 15 years ago, in 2007. Since then, the project has gone through countless circles of development hell. Many writers and directors were changed, only The Rock remained attached to the project. In 2021, the production finally started. Since WB started its DCEU in 2013, it was decided that Black Adam will be set in that franchise, which means that Johnson’s Black Adam shares the universe with Zachary Levi’s Shazam, who is set to get his sequel in Fury of the Gods in March 2023 after his debut in the original Shazam! movie in 2019.

Although Black Adam is known as Shazam’s archnemesis, it was reported that they will not meet before the eventual Shazam 3, and considering how long Johnson waited to play this role, it’s almost certain that this upcoming movie won’t be the only project in which we’ll watch him as Black Adam.

The movie is also set to introduce a whole Justice Society of America. Pierce Brosnan will make his debut as Doctor Fate, and the movie also stars Noah Centineo as Atom Smasher, Aldis Hodge as Hawkman, Quintessa Swindell as Maxine Hunkel/Cyclone, and Sarah Shahi as Adrianna Tomaz. Additionally, it was confirmed at the SDCC panel last July that Viola Davis will reprise the role of Amanda Waller, who she played in David Ayer’s Suicide Squad, James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad, and James Gunn’s Peacemaker series.

Black Adam is directed by Jaume Collet-Serra, who worked with Johnson on Disney’s Jungle Cruise. Black Adam is set to be released on October 21, 2021.
