There was a time when Bleach was one of the “Big Three” of the anime and with the interesting plot and plethora of unique characters, it is easy to understand why. Despite the fact that the series isn’t as popular as it is the conversation surrounding it is still very active. One of the most commonly asked questions is who are the best Bleach main characters?
This article will provide a brief analysis of the 10 most beloved main characters, so if you want to check out how your favorite character ranks on our list, keep reading.
10. Yasutora Sado
Chad, also known as Yasutora Sado, is a Human who lives in Karakura Town. He is a televised professional boxer who competes in televised bouts. During their time at Karakura High School, he was a classmate of Ichigo Kurosaki’s.
Sado is a Mexican-born adolescent of Japanese ancestry. He has dark-skinned features, prominent cheekbones, and wavy brown hair with bangs that fall over his brown eyes. He is a muscular and tall man who looks much older than he is.
Sado has a tattoo on his left shoulder that says Amore e Morte, which translates to “love and death” in Italian, which features a heart surrounded by a serpent and angel wings.
Sado is a quiet person who is often the target of jokes or bullies because he never fights back. Nonetheless, he is handled similarly in Karakura by his party of friends.
Sado is also fond of adorable items, such as tiny animals and Kon’s plushie shape. He is a brilliant young man and has a strong sense of loyalty.
He is devoted to his friends, especially Ichigo, who is one of his nearest, even going so far as to beat a Gotei 13 captain in order to assist him. He displays little emotion except when something he cares about is in danger.
He is an interesting character and had fans invested in his stories since the stakes he had in the overall story were pretty high, however, as the story went on he became a bit more irrelevant.
9. Orihime Inoue
Orihime Inoue is a Karakura Town resident. She attended Karakura High School in the past. She has a son named Kazui Kurosaki and is married to Ichigo Kurosaki.
She is a normal-sized adolescent. She has blue eyes and burnt orange hair that falls to her waist. She keeps her hair in bangs tucked behind her ears with hairpins, which she only takes out at night in honor of her brother.
Orihime is self-sufficient, friendly, amusing, enthusiastic, sensitive, loving, and compassionate. She comes off as ignorant and clueless, which contrasts with her excellent academic performance.
She tends to lose track of what she’s thinking or dreaming of quite often and this state is easily recognizable by her open mouth. She has an overactive imagination and sometimes fantasizes about improbable situations.
She has shown that she is perceptive when it comes to people’s mental and emotional states, especially when it comes to Ichigo, so she can tell what kind of driving force is moving them. She has a crush on Ichigo and then falls in love with him.
Orihime is one of the most interesting characters and was a consistent appearance from the beginning of the series. Although most fans love her a general consensus is that her character remained underdeveloped and that she had much more potential.
8. Renji Abarai
Captain Byakuya Kuchiki has Renji Abarai as his lieutenant in the 6th Division. Under Kenpachi Zaraki, he previously served as the 6th Seat of the 11th Division.
Renji has blue eyes and long crimson hair, which he wears in a tight ponytail most of the time. Renji’s hairline had been leveled since he was a boy.
He later changed the look to a high widow’s top. His upper body is coated with tribal tattoos that have grown in size since his days as an academy student, now covering his entire back, most of his stomach, his extremities, and even a large portion of his forehead.
Renji has a lot of energy. After a big loss, his attitude shifts from cocky to uneasy and exhausted, but when faced with a real challenge, he becomes an extremely serious and dedicated warrior.
He is a dangerous man to those who stand in his path, willing to fight, kill, and die for whatever he believes in. Yasutora Sado compares himself to Ichigo Kurosaki in terms of fighting style.
From the moment he was introduced to the series it was clear that he is an extremely powerful character and fans were excited to see more of him.
7. Yhwach
Yhwach, also known as Your Majesty by his subordinates, is the Father of the Quincy and the Wandenreich’s ruler, with the title A- The Almighty. He is the Soul King’s kid.
Yhwach is a tall man with a long face, pronounced cheekbones, and a strong chin. He has long black hair that goes all the way down to his lower back, as well as reddish-brown skin and light brows. He is clean-shaven and has well-kept mutton chops and a connected beard. His regular outfit consists of a white double-breasted trench coat with wide buttoned cuffs and lapels, white trousers, and trench boots with the Wandenreich mark in the center.
Yhwach is a self-professed peacemaker who despises violence and believes that painful wars should be ended as soon as possible. He keeps the first generation of the Gotei 13 in high regard since they were Shinigami capable of instilling fear in him.
He despises virtues such as justice and dignity, which is why he despises the Gotei 13 for being weakened during his absence of 1000 years. He despises lying as well, and he never denies the reality of his subordinates.
Yhwach desires to create a world free of fear of death, which he accomplishes by combining the Human World, Soul Society, and also Hueco Mundo. Yhwach also despises his father’s position as the Soul King, a sealed and mutilated linchpin created to hold the worlds apart and stabilize the Soul Society. He wants to put an end to his father’s embarrassment.
For a brief moment, it seemed that Bleach was returning to its origins with the Thousand-Year Blood War arc, which featured an intriguing adversary in the shape of Yhwach.
The fact that this guy had tried to assassinate a strong captain in the form of Yamamoto meant serious business, and it was clear that a tough fight lay ahead which made him beloved among the fans.
6. Rukia Kuchiki
The 13th Division’s new captain is Rukia Kuchiki. She previously served as a lieutenant in Captain Jshir Ukitake’s 13th Division. Rukia is the adopted sister of Ichigo Kurosaki’s friend Byakuya Kuchiki, and she is married to Renji Abarai.
Rukia, who was born into a lower social status, maintains her modesty as an adoptive member of the aristocracy. She is graceful and neat, but she prefers to converse with regular people.
Her calm and solitary attitude, on the other hand, also forces her to conceal her personal problems, even from her peers. Rukia, according to Ukitake, never opens her heart and has a hard time making friends.
She has no idea how to navigate the new Human World. She is an excellent actor who has acted her way out of a host of difficult circumstances.
Rukia’s first appearance in the first episode was unforgettable, and the fact that she lost her Soul Reaper abilities made for an intriguing setup, as Ichigo became the Substitute Soul Reaper in her place.
The Soul Society arc was a moment when her character shone brightly, and audiences actually saw a version of Rukia they’d never seen before. Rukia, on the other hand, became surplus to requirements after this arc and, apart from a few odd highlights here and there, never had much of an effect later in the season.
5. Byakuya Kuchiki
Byakuya Kuchiki is the 28th member of the Kuchiki Clan, which is one of Soul Society’s four great noble clans. He is also the captain of the Gotei 13’s 6th Division.
Ginjiro Shirogane was his former lieutenant, and Renji Abarai is his new lieutenant.
Byakuya, as the 28th Head of the Kuchiki Clan, behaves aristocratically. And though he is profoundly conflicted, he still seems calm and unconcerned about other citizens.
Even in combat, he maintains a cool demeanor. He is usually uninterested in most cases, bordering on arrogance, and scarcely considers his rival to be worth his time.
Byakuya is a firm believer in the rule of law. He strives tirelessly for a prosperous world as a captain of the Gotei 13 and the head of one of the great noble families. He believes that if someone in his place does not set a clear example by following the rules, no one else can.
Although Byakuya was pushed to the side over the course of the series in favor of his brother he remains one of the more interesting characters and the way the writers humanized him makes him even more likable.
4. Uryu Ishida
Ury Ishida lives in Karakura Town as a Gemischt Quincy. He works as a doctor at Karakura Hospital and is Ichigo Kurosaki’s neighbor. He was once named as Yhwach’s potential replacement and was a former member of the Wandenreich’s Sternritter with the name A – Antithesis, previously one of Yhwach’s Schutzstaffel, Shuttsushutafferuwhich is German for Protective Echelon and Japanese for Elite/Imperial Guards.
Ury is driven by the Pride of the Quincy moral code which has a solid sense of justice. He claims to impose revenge on men who harass or treat women poorly, which led him to try to save Rukia Kuchiki from Renji Abarai when he and Byakuya Kuchiki came to the Human World to apprehend her, and to protect Orihime Inoue during their time in Soul Society.
Ury prefers to avoid using lethal force in combat, particularly if he can win without it. Instead, he’ll just disable her.
About the fact that the Quincy are meant to be the Shinigami’s mortal enemy, Uryu Ishida managed to stick by Ichigo’s side for the majority of the season… with a few deviations thrown in for good measure, but the fans love him regardless.
3. Ichigo Kurosaki
Ichigo Kurosaki is a Substitute Shinigami who is also a Human. He is the older brother of Karin and Yuzu Kurosaki and the son of Isshin and Masaki Kurosaki. He has a son named Kazui Kurosaki and is married to Orihime Inoue.
His most distinctive attribute is his spiky orange hair, a characteristic for which he has been mocked for years. He’s a tall, slim young man with peach-colored skin and brown eyes.
Ichigo wears the traditional Shinigami outfit with the inclusion of a strap over his chest while in his spiritual form. It began as a thick brown belt to carry his Zanpakut sheath, but after awakening his own Shinigami abilities, it evolved into a red rosary-like buckle.
Ichigo is a rebellious, short-tempered, strong-willed, and impulsive adolescent. Despite saying that he is unconcerned with what others think about him, he tries to keep a detached demeanor.
He still has his brows drawn together and his face framed in a near-permanent scowl. Ichigo has admitted that he has an outspoken, hot-headed personality, and if anyone picks a fight with him, he can’t help but fight back. He has a genuine sense of humanity and empathy for others.
When it comes to war, Ichigo has a complicated sense of honor; he often wants vengeance for his opponent’s cruel deeds. When battling, he often taunts and dismisses his rivals, and he has been known to strike without warning. He has a deep urge to win his battles, but only in what he considers to be a fair way.
As the main protagonist of the story who is set up for growth and development throughout the story, the viewers are naturally set up to root for him.
2. Sosuke Aizen
Sosuke Aizen is a former captain of the Gotei 13’s 5th Division. Then, he and his followers, Gin Ichimaru and Kaname Tosen abandon Soul Society. Momo Hinamori was his lieutenant.
He formerly served as the 5th Division’s lieutenant under Shinji Hirako. Aizen was killed by Ichigo Kurosaki and sealed away by Kisuke Urahara after declaring war on Soul Society with an army of Arrancar. He was later jailed for his sins.
Aizen is a courteous, soft-spoken intellectual who refers to his subordinates by their first names. He hardly displays any signs of anxiety or alarm, and he often has whole scenarios thought out in advance.
When approached, Aizen is casual and uncaring, trying to elicit dialogue and making small talk, which also irritates those with whom he is conversing.
Many, like his deputy, Momo Hinamori, looked up to Aizen at first because he seemed to be a very kind, well-respected captain.
This, though, was only a ruse to hide his dishonest and violent personality. In fact, he doesn’t care about his subordinates and is willing to use almost everyone as a pawn to achieve his objectives.
Aizen is a constant highlight of the series and his presence and arc throughout the story make him one of the fans’ favorite.
1. Kenpachi Zaraki
Kenpachi Zaraki is the new captain of the Gotei 13’s 11th Division. He is the eleventh Kenpachi to serve in this capacity. Yachiru Kusajishi was his first lieutenant, and Ikkaku Madarame is his new lieutenant.
Kenpachi is a tall, muscular Shinigami with a wild, offensive demeanor that matches his demeanor. He has a long face with prominent cheekbones and brow ridges that are hairless.
He has green eyes and black hair that is long and stringy. A long, thin scar running down the left side of his face and across his left eye, inflicted on him by Retsu Unohana while he was still an infant, is a distinguishing feature of his appearance.
He sports white bandages over his midsection and a sleeveless captain’s haori with a ragged appearance in addition to the traditional Shinigami dress.
Regardless of how wise Aizen is, there comes a time when viewers only want to see some awesome battles on the stage, which Kenpachi Zaraki excelled at.
Zaraki was obvious from the moment he was presented as nothing more than a bloodthirsty warrior looking for a fair fight and nothing more.
When it seemed that his character in Bleach had reached a stalemate, he returned with a Bankai that would bring shivers down the spines of everyone who flipped the page to see the oni-like monstrosity he had developed into.
