Bleach has a lot of characters, and from time to time, you notice that some of them could be related to one another. And while there aren’t that many relatives in Bleach, some are present and even quite important. Now, not all relationships have been established in the original manga or in the beginning of the series, and this article will actually focus on one sibling relationship that was established later in the series when it was revealed that Yoruichi Shihoin actually had a younger brother. In this article, you will find out everything you need to know about Yushiro Shihoin.

  • Article breakdown:
  • Yushiro Shihoin is Yoruichi’s younger brother, who was introduced late in the series. He is the current 23rd head of the Shihōin Clan and the guardian of its sacred armor, succeeding his sister when she left Soul Society.
  • Yushiro has not heard from his sister in a while and seems to like her and care for her a lot. He debuted in Chapter 606 of the manga and in Episode 391 of the anime.
  • He is not as powerful as his sister but is still very strong. He is fast, a Shunpo and Hakuda expert, and can also use Shunko.

Yushiro Shihon succeeded his sister and is the current head of the Shihoin Clan

The Shihiin Clan is one of Soul Society’s four noblest shinigami families. The Shihōin family used to be the captains of the secret troops, and even before Yoruichi took over this position, the title of head of the secret troops merged with that of the Captain of the 2nd Division. However, the exile of Yoruichi broke this monopoly and the assumption of office by Soifon. The Shihōin noble family holds several ancient, powerful artifacts in their possession, including the Shihoin shield, the Tenkoten, and the Heavenly Armor.

The only known members so far are the first Captain of the 2nd Division of the Gotei 13, Chika Shihōin, the 22nd generation head of the family and the first female person to hold the office, Yoruichi Shihōin, and her successor, her younger brother Yūshirō Shihōin, whom we are going to talk about in this article.

So, Yūshirō Shihōin is Yoruichi’s younger brother. This is a very specific moment in the series, as Yoruichi was introduced early on in the series. At the same time, her brother debuted in Chapter 606, much later in the series, and he had never been mentioned before that moment. He was a Deus ex machina character, but since his role in the series wasn’t all that big, no one really minded when he was introduced, as he did not really ruin anything. But, he was a surprise, especially since when he first appeared, he looked like a younger version of Yoruichi, as the two are very much alike.

Yūshirō Shihōin succeeded his sister as the clan’s 23rd head and is currently fulfilling his duties in the series, but that was not a piece of data we had earlier in the series, as the state of the clan had not been discussed earlier in the series. He had to be quite young when he took over the position, and from his behavior, we somehow think that he wasn’t fully ready to take it on, although he seems to be doing a fine job.

He is very close to his sister and cares for her very much. This is seen when he comes to help her immediately after she summons him, bringing a lot of useful weapons for his sister, but he ends up crying after he realizes that she has already left. Urahara apologizes to him, telling him that he had to send her up earlier than planned, but Urahara manages to calm him down. He will, of course, join his sister in Wahrwelt when his story becomes more meaningful.

When he and the others arrived in Wahrwelt, Yūshirō immediately sensed his sister’s spiritual pressure and rushed towards her without thinking, showing just how eager he was to see her since he had not seen or heard from her since she left the Seireitei. But, being clumsy, he almost fell off the castle, and had Renji not intervened, Yūshirō would have died. He then calmed down and went to find his sister.

When he did, Yoruichi was fighting Askin Nakk Le Vaar; he immediately rushed in to greet her, but she rebuffed him multiple times before asking why he was not with Urahara. When he said he came to help her, she praised him sarcastically, but he took it literally and started to cry out of joy.

Their reunion was interrupted by Askin, who belittled Yoruichi’s techniques, which angered Yūshirō so much that he used his Shunko: Bakuen Muso to beat up Askin, leaving him for dead. But, due to his Deathdealing, Askin was able to survive. When Yūshirō attacked him again, realizing that his attacks had no effect whatsoever, Askin simply dealt a powerful blow at him and incapacitated him. However, Yūshirō managed to survive, as far as it is understood.

And this is all we have to say about Yūshirō’s story in the series. We’ve said that he did not play a major role, but he was an interesting addition to the lore. Before we wrap this up, let us tell you a bit about his powers and abilities.

How powerful is Yushiro Shihoin?

Although he was not as strong as his sister, Yūshirō was quite powerful for his age, and he seemed to have a lot of potential to grow even stronger. Basing his moves on the clan’s teaching, he is exceptionally quick and, like his sister, does not use a Zanpakuto. He is a Shunpo expert, like his sister, but on top of that, he is also a Hakuda master.

His secret technique is the Shunko, which combines Hakuda with Kido, which he used in his battle against Askin Nakk Le Vaar with surprising proficiency. He has a special move called Shunko: Bakuen Muso, which is a more powerful version of his Shunko techniques. Of course, Yūshirō was not a match for Askin then, but he was powerful enough to deal some damage to him and force him to use his special power to counter him, which speaks for itself.
