Bleach: Is Robert Accutrone Alive? What Happened to Him?

Several Sternritter from Bleach have made a name for themselves in the story, while others have become a thing of the past, as they haven’t really made a major impact. This article will be dedicated to a character from the first group, who has made a lasting impact in the series after his initial confrontation with Shunsi Kyoraku, securing himself a name in the series’ history. The character in question is Robert Accutrone, the Sternritter “N,” and in this article, you will find out what exactly happened to him in the series.

Robert Accutrone was the Sternritter “N” (the name of his powers was never revealed in the series). He was a very skilled fighter who used guns, and he initially appeared when he faced Captain Shunsui Kyoraku of the 8th Division, which happened during the first invasion; in that fight, he could shoot Kyoraku in the eye. Later, he was seen when he tried to stop Ichigo, a useless feat, and he also engaged Byakuya Kuchiki, only to fail once again. Ultimately, he was the one who foresaw that Yhwach would simply use them for his own gain, as they were not among the chosen ones; he was correct, as Yhwach activated Auswahlen soon, and Robert was unable to take it, dying in the process.

The remainder of this article will give you a detailed overview of Robert Accutrone’s fate in the Bleach series, especially in light of what happened to him during the Quincy Blood War and how he fell as a victim of Yhwach’s Auswahlen, while the others did not. You already know what happened and how it happened, so we will just bring you the details so you know the whole context. Be careful, though, as the article will contain many spoilers, so if you don’t know all the details, be careful how you approach the text.

Although Robert Accutrone was one of the most loyal Sternritter, he was killed

Robert Accutrone was one of the first Sternritter introduced in the series, as he was among those introduced during the first invasion of the Seireitei. His Schrift is “N,” but we don’t know what it stands for as he is one of a small number of Sternritters whose designation was not revealed (another notable example is BG9, the Sternritter “K”).

He was introduced as the character who fought Kyoraku and shot him in the eye with his Reishi Pistols, but his role later diminished. We are going to reveal what happened to him in this article.

When the Sternritter attacked the Seireitei for the first time, Accutrone first fought against Shunsui Kyōraku, the then-Captain of the 8th Division, and it was one of the better fights during the first invasion. Surprisingly, as Kyōraku is one of the strongest Shinigami in the story, Robert Accutrone can easily keep up with him, and Kyōraku ends up being outmatched early on in the story. At one point, Accutrone even shoots out his right eye, as Kyōraku became reckless for just a brief second, which was enough for the exceptionally fast Accurtone to make his move; Kyōraku would permanently lose that eye and will later be seen with an eye patch.

After Genryusai Shigekuni Yamamoto decides to enter the battle himself and the Captains become more motivated, as Yamamoto’s fury gives them additional strength, Kyōraku takes his opponent seriously and manages to wound Accutrone.

However, he replies that the Shinigami are not the only ones whose morale increases due to their leader’s fight, as Yhwach had also seemingly decided to fight. However, Accutrone is then shocked to discover that Yamamoto has not only killed one of them (Driscoll Berci) but has also incapacitated three powerful Sternritter who came at him (NaNaNa Najahkoop, Bazz-B, and As Nodt) with just one swing os his Zanpakuto.

We can assume, knowing Kyōraku’s nature, that he – especially after observing Accutrone, who was an older gentleman who looked quite elegant – expected a fight similar to his fight against Coyote Starrk, the Primera Espada. Starrk was the strongest Espada, yet he and Kyōraku had a very laid-back fight until Starrk realized that he had to get serious and then used Wonderweiss’ attack on Ukitake, which distracted Kyōraku to temporarily incapacitate him.

But, unlike Starrk, who had a lot of honor, Accutrone was like a cold-blooded, well-calculated assassin who simply waited for the right moment to overpower his enemy, which is how he managed to shoot Kyōraku’s eye in the first place. Also, during said battle, he was the first Quincy in the Seireitei to activate his Quincy: Vollständig, showing just how powerful Grimaniel was. But let us get back to the story.

When the real Yhwach finally kills Yamamoto, Kyōraku is shocked. Accutrone decides to use this moment to his advantage to defeat the horrified Kyōraku with four hits from his pistol. Kyōraku survived, mostly because the Sternritter had to retread back to the Wandenreich a moment later, so Kyōraku’s life was saved.

Later, during a gathering of the Sternritter, when Yhwach’s successor is announced, Accutrone is seen as surprised as the other Sternritter that Uryū Ishida, a completely unknown Quincy, is to succeed His Majesty in place of Jugram Haschwalth, who was, due to his connection with Yhwach, seen as their future leader by all of the Sternritter. He is later seen during the second invasion but does not have a major fight. He tried to stop Ichigo, but the protagonist effectively dodged his pistols and was later seen trying to fight against Byakuya Kuchiki, which also wasn’t really that fruitful.

While the elite Sternritter troops, the Schutzstaffel, are killed in the Reioukyuu by Ōetsu Nimaiya, Accutrone comes across Liltotto Lamperd and Giselle Gewelle. In the meantime, he realized what had happened and correctly deduced their fate, which sent the usually calm and composed Sternritter into a state of frenzy very quickly.

Namely, he tells the two of them that all of them have already been declared useless and left behind by Yhwach, as he has chosen his companions, which means that the others are not needed anymore and that he will soon take away their lives and powers with his Auswahlen. However, there was no way for Accutrone to know that for certain. It proved to be correct moments later. Namely, as if in response, Yhwach uses the aforementioned technique, Auswahlen, at that very moment, and the falling beam of light kills Accutrone. Only his skeleton and his uniform remain.

Yhwach had used Auswahlen to take away the energy of the Sternritter he left behind to heal his Schutzstaffel. Some of the stronger Sternritter down below survived Auswahlen, but Robert Accutrone did not, showing that he was probably not as strong as most of the other Sternritter, although he was quite skilled.
