Bleach: What Is the Gift that Shinji and Maruyi Sent to Hiyori?
Bleach is finally back with its second cour of episodes from the Thousand-Year Blood War Arc. Now, the continuing conflict between the Shinigami and the Quincy will certainly bring us many exciting moments, which is why we’re going to cover the whole thing for you. In this article, we will talk about a seemingly less important scene from the first episode of the second cour, i.e., the scene in which Hiyori Sarugaki and the Visored who remained in the World of the Living received a gift from Urahara and Mayuri. In this article, we are going to tell you about the content of that gift and why it was so important.
Due to the Quincy attack, many souls from Soul Society were eradicated, as were many of the Hollows. This created an imbalance that distorted realms that had to be fixed for the world to remain balanced. With the others being busy with other tasks, the two Captains sent Hiyori a package with the equipment to fix the distortion; although it all seemed like rimple painting equipment, it was probably more complex than that.
The rest of this article will focus on that particular scene when Hachigen brought a gift package to Hiyori from Soul Society, as we will explain all the details you need to know related to the contents of that package and its role in the series. This was a detail, but it was an important in-universe moment. As far as the content of this article is concerned, we have to warn you that there will be spoilers present, so be careful how you approach the article.
Shinji and Mayuri sent Hiyori a gift containing tools to fix the distortion between the realms
Now, with the first Quincy invasion of Soul Society over, the Seireitei began a phase of rebuilding. And while the Seireitei was more or less quickly rebuilt, the distortion between the realms caused by Yhwach’s massacres in Soul Society and Hueco Mundo was still present, and it had to be fixed temporarily before permanent balance was restored.
So, now we skip to a scene in which Shinji and Hiyori are arguing (actually talking, but that’s them) over the phone about something that Hiyori needs to do, but Shinji doesn’t want to explain properly. Hiyori is complaining as usual, but Shinji just says that a package is on the way and hangs up. A moment later, Hachigen Ushoda appears behind Hiyori, carrying a package in his arms.
As Hiyori comments on how quick the delivery was, we find out that Mayuri and Shinji sent the package. We also soon find out the task that Hiyori had been assigned – namely, four of the Visored remained in the World of the Living after Aizen’s downfall. Shinji, Otoribashi, Muguruma, and Mashiro all returned to Soul Society and were reinstated in their former positions (which made sense, actually, as their predecessors – Aizen, Gin, and Tosen – were gone;
Hisagi remained, but as Mashiro is always following Kensei around, she went with him), while Lisa, Love, Hiyori, and Hachigen remained in the World of the Living (this also makes sense, as Komamura and Kyoraku were still there, while Mayuri would never replace Nemu while she was still there).
What they did there was not known, but it is assumed that they continued with their lives as usual, communicating with Soul Society regularly. This is why Shinji could contact Hiyori when they needed their help. Now, going back to the distortion created by the imbalance caused by Yhwach’s massacre, it needed fixing. Now, the Soul Society was busy with reconstruction and training, and the Gotei 13 couldn’t really ask the humans or the Hollows for help.
This is why Shinji contacted Hiyori Sarugaki to ask her for help. The Soul Society needed the Visored to help fix the distortion, even if it was just temporary, as no one else was free to do it, especially with Urahara and the others training in Hueco Mundo. Hiyori being Hiyori, she, of course, complained but ultimately agreed to help.
Shinji and Mayuri prepared a package and sent it as a gift to Hiyori, and this is the gift that Hachigen brought. In it, as we saw, was wallpaper and painting equipment, which seemed to be odd, but it wasn’t the oddest thing Oda did when “fixing” was concerned (just remember how Mayuri “fixed up” Nemu in Hueco Mundo after the battle with Szayelapporo).
So, they had to repaint some walls that would obviously help Soul Society, so Hiyory decided to do that, but she also explicitly dragged her fellow Visored – Love, Lisa, and Hachigen – into it, despite them not wanting to do it.
Did they succeed? Well, they obviously did. We won’t be spoiling too much, but the Visored temporarily fixed the distortion, and the whole situation was more or less fine, although far from ideal. Yhwach wasn’t actually able to bring about the collapse of the realms, even later, when he merged with the Soul King, so this move obviously had some effect. Hiyori and the Visored obviously did their jobs well, which isn’t surprising, as they were all quite powerful Shinigami, who also had the help of Hachigen, a profoundly skilled sorcerer.
The Visored will, of course, appear later in the story as well, and while their role was not as big as it was in Fake Karakura, it was still significant. We won’t, of course, be spoiling this for you here, but you should know that more Visored moments are on the way and that we will see all of them later in the story, as you’d expect from such a major arc.
