In just five years, the Back to the Future franchise managed to leave a mark on the history of cinema and especially science fiction. The beloved franchise gave us three movies, two of which were amazing, and one which was fine, although a bit inferior.

Created by Robert Zemeckis and Bob Gale, the franchise was finished with the third film, but fans have been demanding more content for decades now, especially since the reboot and revival craze hit Hollywood.

Both Bobs have been adamant that the franchise was done and that there won’t be more content, but Gale was once again asked about a potential new film and he gave another clear-cut answer.

As you know, Bob Gale and Bob Zemeckis have been asked on more than one occasion if there would be more Back to the Future films. And while the media have often favored the idea of a new movie, nothing ever came to fruition, and it was the unwillingness of the franchise’s creators to make more content that stopped it.

There has been talk of both a prequel and a sequel, even a reboot, but the Bobs have been adamant in rejecting all those ideas. “I don’t know why they keep talking about that! I mean, do they think that if they say it enough times, we’re going to actually do it?,” Gale said recently.

But the two of them have a very good reason, as Gale elaborated. “I mean, it’s like they know in every interview people say, ‘Oh Bob, when is there going to be a “Back to the Future 4”?’ Never. ‘When is there going to be a prequel?’ Never. ‘When is there going to be a spinoff?’ Never. It’s just fine the way it is. It’s not perfect, but as Bob Zemeckis used to say, ‘It’s perfect enough,’” he said.

As you can see, the Bobs want to preserve the spirit and the brilliance of the original movies, and reviving the franchise in any way would be a direct attack on that legacy, so their reasons are more than noble.
