BREAKING: ‘Dune: Part Two’ Is Officially In Development

Earlier today we were writing about Dune’s impressive numbers after the opening weekend and how we are wondering where is the sequel announcement. Now it seems that WB and Legendary Pictures have heard our prayers because now we can say that Dune: Party Two is officially in development!

On Legendary’s official Twitter account, it was posted that the journey will continue! Director Denis Villeneuve said earlier that he only adapted half of the original novel in the first movie and that he already started working on the script for the next chapter to conclude this two-part adaptation of Frank Herbert’s sci-fi novel.

Dune was released simultaneously in theaters and on HBOMax last week. During the opening weekend, it was watched by 1.9 million households on HBOMax in the US, and that puts it in second place of all HBOMax openings. Only Wonder Woman 1984 had a better opening last Christmas when it was watched by 2.2 million households.

Warner Bros’ Toby Emmerich released a statement following the announcement of the sequel:

“Denis Villeneuve has crafted a film that is both visually extraordinary and emotionally transporting, as evidenced by its global success both critically and at the box office. We are thrilled to continue on this journey with Denis and his cast and crew, and our partners at Legendary, and can’t wait to bring the next chapter of this epic tale to theaters in October 2023.”

So we have a sequel announcement and a release date! What more could we ask for?

Dune is a star-filled movie directed by Denis Villeneuve and starring Timothée Chalamet, Rebecca Ferguson, Oscar Isaac, Josh Brolin, Dave Bautista, Zendaya, Stephen McKinley Henderson, Stellan Skarsgård, David Dastmalchian, Chang Chen, Sharon Duncan-Brewster, Charlotte Rampling, Javier Bardem, and Jason Momoa.

The official synopsis of Dune: Part One:

Paul Atreides, a brilliant and gifted young man born into a great destiny beyond his understanding, must travel to the most dangerous planet in the universe to ensure the future of his family and his people. As malevolent forces explode into conflict over the planet’s exclusive supply of the most precious resource in existence, only those who can conquer their own fear will survive.
