Byron Bowers Joins MCU’s ‘Wonder Man’ Cast: Here Are 3 Potential Characters He Might Play
‘Wonder Man’ is one of the upcoming live-action shows in the MCU, based on the comic book character of the same name. The show faced development challenges and was rumored to be canceled multiple times over the past few years. However, it has recently been confirmed that the show is still in production and has added a notable cast member.
According to Deadline, Byron Bowers, known for his roles in ‘The Chi’ and ‘Lady in the Lake,’ has joined the show, although his role remains undisclosed.
That, however, doesn’t stop us from speculating about which character he might play. With much of the main cast already announced and Wonder Man being a relatively obscure character, the pool of possible roles for Byron is limited.
He could be portraying Sanford Williams, Wonder Man’s father and a fierce competitor of Stark Industries. Sanford’s death catalyzes Simon’s downfall and sets him on his superhero journey.
Alternatively, he might be playing Erik Josten, aka The Goliath, a notable enemy of Wonder Man. While Wonder Man has numerous adversaries yet to be adapted to the MCU, The Goliath stands out due to his connection to Pym Particles and eventually the Thunderbolts, who are also set to get their own MCU movie.
There’s also the possibility that Byron is playing an original character created for the MCU, deviating from the comic book storyline. Given potential changes to Simon’s origin story, it’s likely that Byron will portray either Simon’s father or a new character.
As previously mentioned, the core cast of the show has been revealed. Byron will join Yahya Abdul-Mateen II in the titular role, alongside Ben Kingsley as Trevor Slattery, a failed actor who pretended to be the Mandarin and later served as Xu Wenwu’s “court jester.”
The cast also includes Demetrius Grosse as Eric Williams, aka Grim Reaper, Simon’s villainous brother; Ed Harris as Neal Saroyan, Simon’s agent; and Lauren Glazier and Josh Gad in undisclosed roles.
‘Wonder Man’ will center on Simon Williams, an actor and stuntperson who acquires superpowers and becomes the superhero Wonder Man. The show is described as a “Hollywood satire.”
It has been announced that the series will consist of 10 episodes and will be available on Disney+. As part of the MCU, its exact release date and phase placement remain unknown.
