MCU’s ‘Wonder Man’: Plot, Cast, Release Date, and All the Latest Details

Wonder Man not cancelled

Despite Bob Iger’s recent announcement that the MCU will produce fewer new projects, we still have many shows to look forward to that started before the strikes.

One of these is a live-action adaptation of ‘Wonder Man,’ based on the comic book character. The show faced many delays and was rumored to be canceled several times over the past few years. Recently, it was confirmed that the show is still happening, so we decided to summarize everything we know about it so far.

‘Wonder Man’ will follow the story of a stuntman who hits a rough patch

The show will focus on Simon Williams, an actor and stuntman who gains superpowers and becomes a superhero known as Wonder Man. It is described as “Hollywood satire.”

In the comics, Simon Williams is the son of a wealthy industrialist whose business struggles due to competition with Stark Industries. To save the family business, Simon embezzles funds, gets caught, and is imprisoned.

While in prison, Simon is approached by the villain Baron Zemo, who offers to give him superpowers in exchange for infiltrating the Avengers. Simon agrees and is transformed through ionic energy treatments, gaining superhuman strength, speed, stamina, durability, and reflexes. Wonder Man in the comics has strong ties to Baron Zemo, Scarlet Witch, and Vision, suggesting this project might connect to the upcoming ‘Vision Quest’ and Scarlet Witch’s rumored solo movie.

The show was created by Destin Cretton and Andrew Guest, who serves as the showrunner. It was recently announced that the show will be released under the Marvel Spotlight banner, meaning you won’t need to watch previous MCU projects to understand it, and it will be aimed at a more mature audience.

The show will also feature Eric Williams, aka Grim Reaper, Wonder Man’s brother and one of his fiercest villains.

The main cast has been revealed

The show has been in development for several years, gradually unveiling much of its core cast over time.

  1. Yahya Abdul-Mateen II portrays Simon Williams, also known as Wonder Man.
  2. Ben Kingsley plays Trevor Slattery, a failed actor who once impersonated the Mandarin. He was later kidnapped by the Ten Rings and became Xu Wenwu’s “court jester.”
  3. Demetrius Grosse portrays Eric Williams, also known as Grim Reaper, Simon’s brother and a villain.
  4. Ed Harris takes on the role of Neal Saroyan, Simon’s agent.
  5. Lauren Glazier appears in an undisclosed role.
  6. Josh Gad is also in an undisclosed role.

There’s no announced release date for the show yet

Recently, it was revealed that the show will comprise 10 episodes and will be available on Disney+. It will be integrated into the MCU, but without a confirmed release date, it’s uncertain which phase it will fall under. Got something to add? Share your thoughts in the comments below!
