Chris Evans Just Revealed His Dream Avengers Lineup and Fans Can’t Stop Talking About It

Chris Evans has spent over a decade attached to the Avengers name, and even though ‘Avengers: Endgame’ technically closed the book on his time carrying a shield, fans have never really let him retire from the conversation. With ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ now just months away, the actor’s every public appearance has become a magnet for headlines, and his latest one did not disappoint.

The occasion was Fan Expo Boston 2026, a homecoming event for the Sudbury born star, who spent the weekend of August 7 through 9 greeting fans, signing autographs, and sitting for a live panel at the Thomas Michael Menino Convention and Exhibition Center. The convention, which billed Evans as the headliner of a star studded lineup, marked a full circle moment for someone who started out in local Boston theater.

During that Boston appearance, Evans was handed a hypothetical that any Marvel fan would kill to answer. He was asked to build his own five person Ultimate Avengers team, with Captain America already locked in as one of the slots. Rather than dodge the question, Evans dove right in, joking that everyone would have follow up questions about whether the goal was winning a fight or just having a good time.

He started with The Scarlet Witch, reasoning that you would be a fool not to pick her given her raw power, then added Thor to the mix as another heavy hitter who basically guarantees a win. His next pick, Iron Man, came with a punchline attached, since Evans joked that after the fighting is done, Tony Stark always knows the best vacation spots.

Once Captain America was confirmed as part of the roster, Evans had one slot left to fill, and he went sentimental rather than strategic. He rounded out his squad with Bucky Barnes, better known as The Winter Soldier, giving his best friend a permanent seat at the table. The pick tracks given how central that friendship has been to Steve Rogers’ entire arc across the franchise.

The timing of this reveal is no accident. Evans is deep in press mode ahead of ‘Avengers: Doomsday,’ which reunites him with Steve Rogers and reportedly puts the character through the wringer. During the same Boston weekend, Evans described his character’s arc as brutal, joking that directors Anthony and Joe Russo love finding new ways to knock Cap down only to have him get back up. That kind of quote fits the pattern of an actor who clearly still cares about this character even years after hanging up the shield.

‘Avengers: Doomsday’ is scheduled to hit theaters on December 18, 2026, and it will pit the returning legacy heroes against Robert Downey Jr’s villainous Doctor Doom. Given how much online buzz a simple hypothetical team could generate, it is safe to say Marvel fans are far from done dissecting every word Evans says between now and the premiere. Would your dream Avengers roster include the same four heroes Evans picked, or would you have swapped someone out for a different fan favorite?
