Christopher Landon Reveals Why He Quit ‘Scream 7’

Scream 7 is scheduled to be released on February 27, 2026. This is definitely good news, especially if you remember how tumultuous the production process was and how the whole project was hanging by a thread.
Actresses have been fired, some quit, some people return, there was a change in the director seat, and recently, the movie has been seeing some skeptical comments due to its plot. But, it’s being made and Kevin Williamson is back so… there is a lot of hope about the movie.
In light of that, the movie’s original director, Christopher Landon, talked to the press about his leaving the project, finally revealing the real reason behind all of that.
As you know, Christopher Landon left the project relatively early on. This was all amidst the scandal surrounding the firing of Melissa Barrera due to her political comments. Jenna Ortega also left the project around the time, so it was assumed that it was all just one big mess.
But, as it turns out, the reason behind Landon leaving the project is much darker and much more serious. “I got messages saying, ‘I’m going to find your kids, and I’m going to kill them because you support child murder,’” the director told the press. “The head of security at various studios and the FBI had to examine the threats. It was highly aggressive and really scary.”
It seems that some people thought Landon was to blame, but that was not the case. “I did not fire her. A lot of people think I had something to do with it, and it was not my doing. I had no control of the situation at all,” he explained. “I think in the absence of people understanding how Hollywood works and what the hierarchy is, the fans were like, ‘that’s the guy.’ And so they came for me, knives out”,” he added.
And while he is sad that he had to leave, he is certain that the movie will be great. “Kevin probably made a banger of a movie, because he knows it better than anybody. It’s going to be awesome,” he concluded.
