Marvel’s Secret Invasion: Cobie Smulders Will Return As Maria Hill In Upcoming Disney+ Series
One more underrated MCU veteran returns! According to Variety, Cobie Smulders will return as Maria Hill in the upcoming Marvel’s Disney+ series Secret Invasion.
Based on the famous Marvel comic book of the same name, Secret Invasion will be adapted into the MCU soon via the 6-episode mini-series. The series was officially announced by Marvel Studios in December 2020, with Samuel L. Jackson and Ben Mendelsohn reprising their roles of Nick Fury and Talos, the Skrull General. Now, Cobie Smulders will return as Maria Hill, or maybe even as a Skrull who shapeshifted into Maria Hill.
Smulders debuted as Maria Hill in The Avengers, and later reprised the role in Captain America: Winter Soldier, Avengers: Age of Ultron, post-credit scene of Avengers: Infinity War, and Avengers: Endgame. She also appeared in three episodes of Agents of SHIELD. Smulders also played Soren, a Skrull disguised as Maria Hill in Spider-Man: Far From Home. Now, it’s unknown if the real Maria Hill will return, or we’re just going to see more of Soren as Maria in Secret Invasion. The plot is kept under wraps, but the fact that Smulders will return is generally exciting.
Cobie Smulders, aside from MCU, is best known for the role of Robin in the sitcom How I Met Your Mother. She joined MCU in 2012, and since Secret Invasion is about to come next year, she can also say she spent 10 years in the biggest movie franchise ever, although she didn’t play the role as much as some other MCU actors. Smulder’s Maria Hill is known as one of those fan-favorite characters who should get more attention in the franchise.
Created by Kyle Bradstreet, Secret Invasion is set to premiere next year on Disney+. Kingsley Ben-Adir has been cast as the unknown main villain, and Emilia Clarke, Olivia Colman, Killian Scott, Christopher McDonald, and Carmen Ejogo were cast in undisclosed roles.
