‘Coven Academy’ Release Date, Time, Where to Watch and Preview
‘Coven Academy’ arrives this week as Freeform’s newest supernatural teen drama, and most viewers simply want to know when and how to start watching. The series premieres on Freeform on Thursday, October 1, with every episode available on Disney+ and Hulu starting the next day.
The schedule is only part of the story. The show follows three teenage witches and their dangerously charming warlock peers at an elite magic boarding school in New Orleans, where secrets can be lethal. This guide covers what you need to know before the ‘Coven Academy’ premiere.
The ‘Coven Academy’ Release Date
The show debuts on October 1 as part of Freeform’s 31 Nights of Halloween lineup. Linear viewers get the first look on cable, while digital subscribers get the full season on October 2.
The format is unusual for a teen drama. The first season is built from 21 short chapters instead of traditional hour long episodes. On live TV, more chapters follow on October 8, with the season finale airing on October 15.
Despite the short chapters, the total runtime is substantial. According to WDWINFO, creator Tim Federle says watching the whole season adds up to more than five hours.
The series was originally planned for Disney Channel but moved to Freeform when the teaser trailer arrived. That shift places it alongside the network’s seasonal Halloween programming.
‘Coven Academy’ Release Time and Schedule
Freeform airs the premiere on October 1 at 8 p.m. EDT/PDT. That means the broadcast starts at the same clock time for viewers on the East and West coasts.
For anyone who would rather skip the weekly blocks, the full season is available the following day on Disney+, Hulu and Freeform On Demand. Because the series is treated as a bingeable drop, subscribers can start the entire run as soon as it lands.
Disney lists the series as TV-PG-V, which signals that younger viewers are meant to be welcome too. The rating suggests the supernatural conflict leans on atmosphere and peril more than anything graphic.
Where to Watch ‘Coven Academy’
The first option is live television. Freeform carries the premiere on Thursday evening, with later chapters following in weekly blocks.
The second option is streaming. Listings show the series coming to Disney Plus and Hulu on October 2. Viewers who do not have cable can wait one day and watch everything in one sitting.
Disney+ is positioning the series as a supernatural addition to this year’s Halloween movies and shows. The series is produced by Chorus Boy Productions in association with Disney Kids & Family.
‘Coven Academy’ Preview and What to Expect
The story centers on Briar, a witch whose newly awakened powers lead her to enroll at a shadowy New Orleans prep school to uncover the truth behind her mother’s disappearance. The setup blends a family mystery with a school setting where every friendship carries stakes.
Malina Pauli Weissman, known for ‘A Series of Unfortunate Events,’ plays Briar, with Malachi Barton as the warlock Jake and Tiffani Thiessen as Miss Graves, the head of the school. Jordan Leftwich plays Sasha, Ora Duplass plays Tegan, and Louis Thresher plays Ollie, a newly turned vampire.
The official trailer shows Briar struggling to control her new abilities, along with a turbulent love triangle involving Jake and Ollie. Federle has also teased that Miss Graves once attended the school and belonged to a coven herself, while Briar is tasked with forming a coven alongside Sasha and Tegan.
Once the whole season is in your hands on Disney+ or Hulu, do you see Briar choosing between Jake and Ollie, or will the coven she is forced to build with Sasha and Tegan matter more to her story?
