‘Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon’ TV Series in Development at Amazon

Amazon Prime Video is working on a new TV series based on the famous Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon story. The show is inspired by the Crane-Iron Pentalogy book series written by Wang Dulu.
The series is being developed by writer and executive producer Jason Ning, known for his work on Lucifer and The Brothers Sun, along with executive producer Ron Moore, famous for Outlander and For All Mankind. Sony Pictures Television is also involved in the project.
The story will follow two powerful warriors, Shu Lien and Mu Bai reports Deadline. They are in love, but their love is forbidden. The series explores their struggles to balance their deep feelings for each other while facing the changes of the modern world. They are caught between their traditions and the possibility of a future together.
Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon was first adapted into a popular Oscar-winning movie by director Ang Lee. The movie combined stories from several of the Crane-Iron books. Sony Pictures, which made the film, also owns the rights to the original books.
This new TV series was first started when Sony regained the rights to the books a few years ago. Jason Ning was chosen to adapt the story for television. Ron Moore joined the project last year after returning to Sony with a new overall deal.
The show will be produced by Ning and Moore, along with Maril Davis, Johnny Levin, Roy Lee, and others. The project is supported by the Wang Dulu Estate, including Hong Wang and Qin Wang.
Wang Dulu’s Crane-Iron Pentalogy consists of five novels published between 1938 and 1944. These books tell the tales of several generations of ancient Chinese warriors, known as youxia, who fight for justice in a changing world.
